We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Agronomist
Location: Jos, Plateau
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and oversee crop production activities, including planting, cultivation, and harvesting of crops used as feed for dairy cattle.
Select appropriate crop varieties and cultivars based on soil conditions, climate, and nutritional requirements of dairy cattle.
Implement best practices for crop rotation, soil fertility management, and pest and disease control to optimize crop yield and quality.
Conduct soil tests and analyses to assess soil fertility, nutrient levels, and pH balance.
Develop and implement soil management plans to improve soil health, fertility, and structure by recommending appropriate soil amendments, fertilizers, and organic matter applications to maintain optimal soil conditions for crop growth.
Promote sustainable farming practices, including conservation tillage, cover cropping, and water management techniques, to minimize environmental impact and maximize resource efficiency.
Incorporate integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and organic farming principles to reduce reliance on synthetic inputs and minimize pesticide use.
Stay abreast of latest research, developments, and innovations in agronomy, crop science, and sustainable agriculture.
Collect, analyze, and interpret agronomic data related to crop performance, soil health, and farming practices.
Provide insights and recommendations to management on opportunities for improvement and optimization in crop production and farming operations.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years experience in agronomic management, crop production, and sustainable farming practices, preferably in a dairy farming or livestock feed production environment.
Strong knowledge of agronomy principles, crop physiology, soil science, and plant nutrition.
Familiarity with agricultural technologies, precision farming tools, and data analysis software.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
