Job Summary

• We are seeking a skilled and passionate Baker to join our supermarket team.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a variety of breads, pastries, and other baked goods. 
• The Baker must ensure high standards of hygiene, quality, and customer satisfaction while maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and bake a wide variety of baked goods including breads, rolls, cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries.
• Follow recipes and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
• Monitor oven temperatures and adjust mixing, baking, and timing as needed.
• Decorate cakes and pastries as required.
• Ensure freshness and proper display of bakery items on the shelves and counters.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the baking area, tools, and equipment.
• Check ingredients for freshness and ensure correct stock rotation (FIFO method).
• Assist in inventory management and report shortages of baking ingredients or supplies.
• Comply with food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
• Collaborate with the bakery/confectionery team to introduce new products and seasonal items.
• Take customer orders for customized baked goods when required.
• Adhere to production schedules to meet demand throughout the day.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interested candidates should possess an HND / NCE / OND / SSCE / GCE / NECO qualification
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a bakery or similar setting.
• Familiarity with operating bakery equipment such as mixers, ovens, dough rollers, and proofers.
• Passion for baking and innovation in product offerings.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a baker in a retail or commercial kitchen setting.
• Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and food safety standards.
• Ability to follow recipes accurately and meet quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail and creativity, especially in decorating baked goods.
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy bags of flour or ingredients.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Certification in food handling or culinary training is a plus.
