We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Account Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

• The Account Officer is responsible for performing day-to-day financial and accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely transaction processing and maintaining financial records for Battregen. 
• This role involves handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, statutory deduction processing, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance activities. 
• The Account Officer plays a vital role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the company's operations.

Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Payments:

• Receive, verify, code, and accurately process supplier invoices, ensuring proper authorization and matching with purchase orders/receipts where applicable.
• Prepare payment vouchers and process approved payments via appropriate methods (e.g., bank transfers, cheques).
• Reconcile supplier statements regularly and promptly resolve any discrepancies.
• Maintain the accounts payable ledger and ensure records are up-to-date.

Accounts Receivable & Collections Support:

• Prepare customer invoices based on approved service or sales documentation.
• Record customer payments accurately and allocate them against outstanding invoices.
• Maintain the accounts receivable ledger and generate aging reports.

Banking & Reconciliations:

• Perform timely reconciliations of all company bank accounts against bank statements.
• Investigate and resolve any discrepancies identified during bank reconciliations.
• Manage the office petty cash fund, including processing disbursements, collecting receipts, and performing reconciliations.

Reporting & Compliance Support:

• Prepare accurate and timely month-end schedules, reconciliations, and analyses (e.g., bank reconciliation summaries, accounts receivable/payable aging reports, fixed asset schedules, prepayment/accrual schedules) required for the financial closing process.
• Prepare required schedules and compile supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
• Prepare accurate computations for statutory deductions (PAYE, Pension, WHT, VAT, NSITF, ITF, NHF) and ensure all supporting documentation is finalized for timely remittance.
• Compile and provide actual expenditure information for budget monitoring purposes.

General Ledger & Record Keeping:

• Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, depreciation, payroll summaries, and other adjustments.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and related sub-ledgers.
• Ensure systematic filing (physical and electronic) and archiving of all financial documents for easy retrieval and audit purposes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting or Finance is required.
• Part or full qualification with ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a significant advantage.
• 3-5 years of relevant, hands-on experience in a comprehensive accounting role covering AP, AR, GL management, and reconciliations.
• Experience working within the Nigerian business environment and applying local accounting practices.
• Experience using standard accounting software packages (e.g., Sage 50/200, QuickBooks, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) is required.
• Solid understanding of core accounting principles (double-entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, etc.) and ideally IFRS.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, formulas) is essential for analysis and reporting.
• Good working knowledge of Nigerian tax laws related to VAT, WHT, PAYE, and Companies Income Tax, as well as Pension and other statutory contribution requirements.
• Excellent numerical skills and a high degree of accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good organizational skills.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
