Since then it has successfully executed several intervention programmes as outlined by its objectives and has made impact in the lives of the very poor. WaterAid with the country office in Abuja currently works in Bauchi, Enugu and Plateau States with funding from various donors and partners.

Job Title: WASH & Climate Resilient Coordinator

Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to lead Lagos Programme in the delivery of the WASH and Climate Change Aim.
He/she will provide technical support and oversight in the achievement of its influencing outcomes.
The position-holder will lead and/or facilitate development of quality, impactful, inclusive, and innovative projects and programmes on Climate Change related to WASH and provide technical guidance in their delivery.
She/he will achieve this through a programmatic approach that combines field-based programmes with learning, research and advocacy initiatives and work in collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders in the public and private sectors, including civil society organizations, National and Local Governments in Nigeria.
The Position holder will contribute to defining clear narratives for climate resilience WASH policies.
He/she will act as a recognised WaterAid Lagos Programme spokesperson and expert on climate resilient WASH.
In addition, he/she will play a major part in realising WaterAid's ambition to strengthen the resilience of WASH to climate change and achieve national change through its research, policy work global advocacy priorities and campaigns.
Accountabilities
Programme and Projects Development:
Lead the development of a climate change programme on WASH for the Lagos Programme.
Ensure WASH policies and governance structure aligns with climate programmes and project are aligned with WaterAid’s program quality standards.
Develop challenging and innovative projects on Climate resilient WASH.
Support the development of innovative and context-specific concepts and proposals on climate-resilient WASH.
Support the climate adaptation of WaterAid Nigeria in ongoing climate programmes in Lagos state.
Support WaterAid Nigeria in developing the capacity of the relevant staff and partners on Climate Change, water security, WRM and sanitation.
Ensure the Climate programmes and project under Aim 3 are aligned with WaterAid Nigeria Lagos state government plans and priorities on climate change policies such as National Adaptation Plans and Nationally Determined Contributions.
Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of programming processes for the achievement of the WASH and Climate Change programmes and projects.
Programme Learning and Influencing:
Ensure the capture and documentation of Climate Change and WASH models and practices for influencing WASH and Climate Change policy and practice.
Support the development and delivery of robust advocacy strategies necessary for the integration of WASH in Climate Change process, plans, and strategies at different levels.
Support the Advocacy and campaign team to develop and implement the WASH in Climate Change campaigns at the National, state and Local levels, in collaboration with sector partners and stakeholders.
Keep informed of the global, regional and national situation, processes, policies and plans related to climate change and their links with the WASH programmes.
Commission research and studies for deepening WaterAid and WASH sector partners’ knowledge and understanding of the linkages between Climate Change and WASH.
Undertake stakeholder engagement to advance WaterAid’s agenda to attract climate financing to WASH related interventions.
Support the MEAL and communication teams, to document the qualitative and quantitative outcomes and impacts of WaterAid and partners’ work on Climate Change and WASH, to ensure successful implementation and adaptation.
Develop technical guides and briefs to support resilient WASH programming and policy influencing in the state and Country Programme.
Support documentation of best practices and innovations in Nigeria Country Programme to contribute to cross learning in the region.
Manages financial resources:
Prepare annual budgets and carry out regular budget monitoring.
Actively support the development of annual plans and budgets for Climate resilient WASH projects.
Manage grants and funding from WaterAid and other donors.
Prepare monthly cash flow financial plans for timely submission to the Head of Finance and IT.
Apply WaterAid policies on Health and Safety, water quality monitoring and testing, and risk management strategy.
Sector engagement and networking:
Represent WaterAid in relevant national, state, CSO, donor, and government forums related to Climate Change and WASH and build WaterAid’s reputation in the sector.
Represent WaterAid in national and state processes and debates on climate change and WASH.
Develop and strengthen effective partnerships, networks, and alliances with sector stakeholders, international organisations including National and Local Governments and agencies, research institutes, private sector and NGOs involved in climate change issues.
Encourage and actively promote cross sectoral linkages and learning, especially with disaster mitigation and risk reduction.
Establishing and maintaining a strong network of key players – both within the WASH sector and in broader water resource communities – to increase influence and position WaterAid as a leading organisation in terms of addressing the threats to sustainable WASH services.
Work collaboratively with the regional WASH and Climate change adviser.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
A B.Sc Degree in Environmental Studies, Water Resource Management, Water Security, Geography, Geology, Hydrogeology Climate change or related studies from a recognized university.
A master’s degree in any of the field will be an added advantage.
10 years cumulative work experience with a minimum of 5 years demonstrated practical experience in WASH and climate-related programming and or project management.
Proven experience in WASH and/or water resource management (governance/ management/ engineering aspects).
Proven experience in policy and advocacy and leading campaigns’ design and delivery.
Proven experience in building the networks and coalitions required to drive an effective change agenda - especially with major international agencies, governments and INGOs.
Should have competency in WaterAid common approaches to work including partnerships, convening, inclusion, systems strengthening, creating behavioural change, and mainstreaming gender and inclusion of youth.
Desirable Criteria:
Proven ability to innovate and develop a successful change agenda on climate change for external influencing purposes.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships and alliances for influencing government policy and programme delivery on Climate Change issues.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout Nigeria, with some overseas travel as well.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Team player and ability to work across geographies.
Ability to work independently and with minimal management oversight.
