Rector at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi

The Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi was established on the 1St April, 1980 following the upgrading of the College of Technology to that status by Law No.4 of 1982. The institution was established in order to train middle and high-level manpower for the technological development of the Country. The Institution runs full-time programs at both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels. The Polytechnic also has a School of Vocational and Technical Education where Technical and Technology Teachers are trained.
All the full-time ND, NCE (Technical) and HND programs are accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), respectively.

Job Summary

• The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic and has the Power to exercise general authority over both the staff and students, and he is responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic, subject to the general control of the Governing Council. 
• In addition to proven management and leadership experience, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavors and must be credible.

Requirements, Qualifications, and Qualities

• The candidate for the post of Rector is expected to possess the following qualifications and qualities. Must hold a Master's degree, preferably a doctorate degree from a recognized institution in any of the disciplines offered in the Polytechnic (viz. Engineering, Science, Technology, Commerce Administration and Management) with a minimum of fifteen (15) years teaching experience, which must have been gained in a Polytechnic.
• Must be a Chief Lecturer from the Polytechnic Sector with not less than five (5) years' experience on the rank.
• Must not be more than fifty-nine (59) years of age at the time of application
• Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership
• Must provide evidence of membership of reputable professional body / bodies in Nigeria.
• Must provide evidence of scholarly publications such as books and publications in reputable journals within or outside the country as well as presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars and workshops.
•  Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic 
• Must be a person with initiative and vision with the capacity to sustain the accelerated pace of development of the Polytechnic even under financial and other challenging constraints.
• Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation.
• Must be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, ethical, gender, political, religious or other sectional interests.
• Must be morally sound, of impeccable character, physically and mentally healthy with evidence from a Government hospital.
• Must be proficient in information & CommunicationTechnology (ICT).
• Must have evidence of Community service.

Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service

• The appointment is for a term of four (4) years in the first instance and renewable subject to satisfactory performance for another term of four (4) years and nomore.
• The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy other benefits of the office as may be approved from time to time by the Governing Council or State Government.
