We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Case Worker - Nutrition and Protection Project
The Case Worker will provide individual case management support to vulnerable children and families, particularly survivors of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence, as part of GHIV Africa’s integrated Nutrition and Protection intervention.
The Case Worker is responsible for identifying at-risk children and caregivers, conducting assessments, developing and implementing case plans, ensuring appropriate referrals, and providing psychosocial support in line with inter-agency and GHIV Africa case management standards.
Key Responsibilities
Case Identification and Assessment:
Conduct outreach and identify vulnerable children and caregivers through protection screening and nutrition activities.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of protection needs, risks, and strengths of the child and caregiver using GHIV Africa’s standardized tools.
Case Planning and Management:
Develop and implement individualized case plans in collaboration with the child, caregiver, and relevant service providers.
Provide direct support (e.g., psychosocial support, follow-up on referrals) and coordinate multi-sectoral services such as MHPSS, nutrition, education, health, and legal aid.
Ensure proper case closure in line with minimum standards and documentation procedures.
Referral and Service Coordination:
Maintain updated service mapping and referral pathways for health, nutrition, GBV, education, and legal support services.
Ensure timely and confidential referrals of cases to appropriate service providers and follow up to ensure service delivery.
Support nutrition teams in referring protection cases, especially those identified during treatment of MAM/SAM and IYCF counseling.
Documentation and Confidentiality:
Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential case files using GHIV Africa’s case management tools and database.
Ensure data protection and confidentiality are strictly maintained, following GHIV Africa and donor safeguarding standards.
Participate in case review meetings and submit regular progress reports to the Case Management Supervisor.
Psychosocial Support and Child Participation:
Provide age-appropriate psychosocial support through one-on-one and group sessions.
Facilitate safe spaces and structured recreational activities to promote psychosocial well-being.
Ensure children and families are meaningfully involved in decisions affecting their lives.
Community Engagement and Awareness:
Support the implementation of awareness-raising and community sensitization activities on child protection, GBV, nutrition, and safeguarding.
Liaise with community leaders, caregivers, and child protection committees to promote safe environments for children.
Coordination and Capacity Strengthening:
Participate in internal trainings and weekly case management supervision sessions.
Support capacity building of volunteers or community-based protection structures when needed.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Health, Nursing, Education, or related field.
At least 1 - 2 years of experience in child protection, case management, or social work, preferably in humanitarian settings.
Knowledge of protection issues affecting children and caregivers in conflict-affected areas, especially in Northeast Nigeria.
Knowledge of community-based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.
Core Competencies:
Case Management Knowledge and Skills:
Solid understanding of case management principles, including best interest determination, confidentiality, informed consent, and Do No Harm.
Experience using assessment and planning tools to support children and caregivers.
Child Protection and Safeguarding:
Understanding of child protection risks in emergencies, including GBV, child labor, neglect, and psychosocial distress.
Commitment to GHIV Africa’s Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Minimum Standards (CPMS).
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Strong listening and empathy skills, with the ability to work with survivors of trauma and vulnerable populations respectfully and professionally.
Ability to communicate clearly with children, families, and community members in a culturally sensitive manner.
Problem-Solving and Adaptability:
Ability to respond to challenging situations and make decisions in stressful, fast-paced environments.
Flexibility to work in hard-to-reach areas and adapt approaches to evolving needs.
Coordination and Teamwork:
Ability to collaborate with nutrition, MHPSS, and protection teams for cross-referrals and integrated support.
Willingness to participate in joint field visits and multidisciplinary response efforts.
Confidentiality and Ethical Conduct:
High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality when handling sensitive case information.
Demonstrated commitment to ethical service delivery and child-centered programming.
Preferred:
Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri, Fulfulde, or other local languages in Borno and Adamawa is highly desirable.
Experience working with children with disabilities and survivors of GBV.
Familiarity with digital case management systems or mobile data collection tools
