Conference Interpreter - African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) - 3 Openings

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was founded in 1957 by four nations: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa. As the administrative body of the region, CAF manages competitions, offers technical and administrative training courses while actively fostering the promotion and practice of football. The Confederation organizes championships such as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN or AFCON), the most popular competition. It maintains very close links with FIFA in coordinating tournaments for different events such as the World Cup, Youth and Women competitions and the Olympic Games Football Tournaments.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Conference Interpreter - African Nations Championship (CHAN)

Locations: Kenya, Tanzania & Uganda

Job Summary

• CAF is looking to recruiting Conference interpreters for CHAN, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.
• To set up its database, CAF is calling for applications from qualified freelance conference interpreters with French, English, Arabic, Portuguese and Swahili; to facilitate multicultural communication and overcome language barriers during the final stage of CHAN 2024.

Scope

• Freelance interpreters are invited to express interest in providing interpretation services during CHAN match press conferences and side events.
• They will be awarded contracts to provide interpretation services at meetings.

Main Task:

• Freelance interpreters provide quality simultaneous or consecutive interpretation services, as required, at match press conferences and meetings during CHAN.

Requirements

• A diploma in conference Interpreting from a recognized institution.
• Knowledge of football / sport terminology is an advantage.
• Professional residence in Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania
• French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili as A language
• French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili as B language

Required Skills:

• Excellent passive comprehension of the source language.
• Accuracy in interpreting into the target language.
• Ability to construct complete sentences.
• An understanding of the appropriate style and register.
• Good diction and ability to keep up with speed.
• Open to travel and learning.
