Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Lagos
Job Description
To direct the fiscal functions in accordance with generally accepted principles issued by in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Provides overall guidance, leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the activities of the Finance Function.
Anticipates and controls financial risks by ensuring availability of accurate financial data in line with business objectives.
Provides Management with timely, complete and accurate financial information for business decision-making process. Develop, organize and evaluate fiscal function and performance.
Articulates the financial strategies and ensures alignment with organisation objectives.
Participates in the development of the overall strategic goals and ensures these are cascaded to the Finance department.
Champions the implementation of the Finance department’s strategy ensuring alignment with the corporate strategy and business goals.
Oversees the preparation of the department’s annual budget and monitors its implementation.
Provides timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends to assist the MD, Board and other senior executives in performing their duties.
Provides leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the department’s functions.
Continually reviews and assesses the effectiveness of the department’s policies, procedures, processes with a view to identifying improvement opportunities.
Manages risks and returns on the Company’s financial resources, constantly seeking to maximise shareholders’ wealth.
Develops, implements and monitors framework for delegation of authority on financial issues i.e. develop, administer and manage the financial standard operating procedure.
Ensures the development and implementation of finance and accounting policies, procedures and processes in line with leading practices and accounting standards and the on-going compliance to them.
Acts as the finance expert on issues relating to interpretation of accounting, tax and regulatory provisions.
Coordinates timely preparation of financial statements, ensures the statements reflect the organisation’s financial position and complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Oversees the maintenance and administration of general ledger accounts.
Maintains an efficient and integrated accounting system with appropriate internal financial controls.
Oversees fixed asset management activities and ensures compliance with operating policies, controls and procedures.
Oversees the preparation of year-end fixed asset and depreciation schedules for annual audit/review.
Ensures bank accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliation activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner based on agreed account reconciliation chart as shared by other relevant departments
Coordinates the development of the corporate budget, the allocation and distribution of financial resources.
Conducts budget reviews to ensure relevance, accuracy, timeliness and easy interpretation for management decision making.
Manages the interface between the organisation, external auditors and regulators to ensure the organisation’s financial interests are protected.
Develops and maintains strategic relationships with local and international financial institutions.
Responsible for financial analysis and ratios, including their interpretation and recommendation of changes to improve systems and financial performance.
Periodically reviews key finance activities and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the Company’s business objectives are achieved.
Coordinates monitoring of business performance against agreed plans, targets and budgets, partnering with the MD and executive team to identify and take timely and appropriate action to address performance issues and/or capitalise on opportunities.
Manages the periodic benchmarking of performance against competitors.
Develops and implements detailed cost management strategies to monitor and control costs organisation wide.
Monitors operating base costs and highlight factors impacting effective cost management, hence contributing towards the achieving low-cost business environment.
Develops effective tax planning strategies and oversees the filing of all tax returns.
Coordinates investor relations activities including preparation of investor communications such as presentations and press releases.
Keep abreast of industry developments and trends and proactively ensure the adoption of relevant practices.
Supervisory, Reporting and Other Duties:
Authorises expenditure/ transactions in line with approved authority limits.
Oversees the production of periodic reports for use by Executive management, as well as the Audit/Finance Committee and Board of Directors
Liaises and supports other department’s managers in managing, tracking, monitoring, and reporting financial data as requested.
Supervises the training, motivation and performance management of finance departmental staff.
Reviews and ratifies the department’s activities as well as make recommendations for improvement as required. • Acts on behalf of and perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Operating Officer
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in finance, Accounting or any related discipline
Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with 5 in a finance position
Master’s degree in accounting, business- or business-related field.
Deep awareness and understanding of the financial industry.
Professional certification in Accounting/Finance is strongly desired
Competency and Skill Requirement:
Experience in financial management- planning and analysis.
Strong Business Acumen with a high level of technical capacity
Solid working knowledge of budgeting, sales, business development, and strategic planning.
Extensive knowledge of financial and accounting principles, including in depth understanding of international and Nigerian accounting and financial reporting standards.
Excellent understanding of the local and global financial services industry.
Understanding of trends and recent developments in accounting for financial institutions.
Extensive knowledge of MS Office tools.
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Strong strategic orientation, creativity and innovation.
Good policy development and management capabilities.
Mature and tactful, with the ability to relate with highest levels of management of financial institutions and financers.
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and business presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, and staff
Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and high level of integrity.
