Job Title: Facilities Engineer
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure associated with oil and gas exploration, drilling, and production operations.
Ensure that facilities meet operational requirements, comply with industry standards and regulations, and support safe and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out production facility review to optimize production, whilst minimizing downtime associated with equipment failures resulting to production deferment.
Offer general facilities, projects and operations engineering support for new and existing facilities, through application of broad fundamental technical engineering knowledge.
Assist with pre-development technical evaluations including preparation of basis of design documentation.
Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of facilities.
Collaborate with contractors, construction teams, and project managers to ensure timely and accurate implementation of facility projects.
Conduct inspections and quality control checks Initiate and develop conceptual designs for process and process safety related equipment.
Develop engineering designs and specifications for oil and gas facilities, including production platforms, well pads, gathering systems, storage tanks and associated infrastructure.
Ensure designs meet safety, operability, and reliability requirements and comply with industry standards and regulations.
Review designs and resolve technical issues with third party contractors in line with relevant codes and standards.
Coordinate regulatory activities related to facilities and development activities.
Manage project interfaces and associated material take-offs, fabrication and installation.
Develop and implement maintenance strategies for oil and gas facilities.
Establish preventive maintenance programs, conduct routine inspections, and coordinate repairs and upgrades as necessary.
Identify opportunities for equipment optimization, reliability improvement, and cost reduction.
Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities related to facility projects. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure project objectives are met within established timelines and budgets. Provide regular project updates and reports to stakeholders.
Ensure facilities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Develop and maintain safety procedures, conduct risk assessments, and implement measures to mitigate potential hazards.
Stay updated with industry regulations and best practices related to facility design, construction, and operations.
Review the performance of the existing offshore facilities, identify and assess areas of possible facility enhancement.
Actively participate in the management of change process for facility modification projects.
Perform routine review of engineering documents (equipment specs, data sheets, P&IDs, etc.).
Identify and resolve operational issues and equipment failures related to facilities. Conduct root cause analysis, develop corrective action plans, and collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to implement solutions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of facility designs, maintenance activities, and operational procedures.
Prepare reports, technical documents, and engineering records. Ensure compliance with documentation standards and record-keeping requirements.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Production, Chemical Engineering or any relevant engineering discipline from a reputable tertiary institution.
At least Second-Class Upper degree.
A Second-Class Lower degree could be considered for candidates with advanced degrees (MBA, MSc, or equivalent).
7 – 10 years’ oil and gas industry experience as a member of a project management team.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be an added advantage.
Proven experience as a Facilities Engineer in oil and gas upstream industry, with a focus on facility design, construction, and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of facility engineering principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices.
