Job Title: Mechanical Pipeline Engineer
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Job Summary
The Mechanical Pipeline Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, feasibility, and compliance of all mechanical designs associated with oil and gas pipeline projects.
As part of the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team, this individual will lead the review and vetting of mechanical design packages, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
The position demands a seasoned professional with extensive experience in mechanical design and engineering for oil and gas pipelines, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design Review and Approval:
Lead the review, analysis, and validation of mechanical design documents and drawings for pipeline systems.
Ensure designs meet project specifications, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
Identify and resolve design inconsistencies, non-compliance, and potential technical issues.
Regulatory and Standards Compliance:
Verify compliance with local, national, and international regulations related to pipeline design and operation.
Keep abreast of updates to industry standards and best practices.
Coordination and Interface Management:
Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and alignment of design goals.
Interface with other disciplines (e.g., civil, electrical, instrumentation) to address interdisciplinary design challenges.
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical guidance to EPCC engineers and design team members.
Offer recommendations and solutions to improve design efficiency and project outcomes.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Conduct design risk assessments, ensuring the safety and operability of pipeline systems.
Evaluate design inputs and outputs to preempt potential failures or inefficiencies.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports on design review findings and recommendations.
Maintain comprehensive records of all reviewed designs and correspondence for audit and reference purposes.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure that all mechanical designs adhere to the project’s quality management system.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to monitor compliance.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 12-15 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on oil and gas pipeline projects.
Proven experience in design review, vetting, and compliance for pipeline systems.
Technical Skills:
Expertise in pipeline design codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.4/B31.8, API 5L, API 1104).
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, CAESAR II, or similar.
Strong understanding of materials, welding, corrosion, and stress analysis principles.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Certifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly desirable.
Relevant certifications in project management or pipeline design (e.g., PMP, ASME Certified Engineer) are an advantage.
Other Requirements:
Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
Flexibility to travel to project sites and client offices as required.
Preferred Competencies:
Experience in handling large-scale pipeline projects (onshore / offshore).
Familiarity with project management consultancy processes and workflows.
Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
