Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

Overview

• As a Senior Legal Counsel (Nigeria), you will be responsible for managing the legal affairs of Moment’s Nigeria business. 
• This is a 360 degree legal role and involves commercial legal facilitation, corporate law and governance responsibilities, and – as Moment is a licensed Nigerian payment services provider – legal support to our compliance team on licensing and regulatory matters. 
• Reporting to the General Counsel, the Moment legal team is ultimately responsible for facilitating Moment’s commercial objectives in a legally compliant manner, and ensuring Moment grows its business responsibly in Africa’s most populous market.

Job Responsibilities

• Review, draft, negotiate, and interpret a wide variety of commercial agreements including SaaS agreements, NDAs, vendor contracts, and partnership agreements, and ensure that all commercial agreements adequately protect the company’s interests
• Review, draft, and negotiate Nigerian employment agreements
• Review, draft, and negotiate data privacy agreements with Moment’s vendors and partners, and assist in developing Moment’s Nigerian privacy policies
• Review, draft, and maintain Moment Nigeria’s constitutional documents and provide corporate governance advice to Moment Nigeria
• Provide general legal support to our Nigerian business on an as-needed basis.

Requirements
Education and previous Experience:

• LLB/BL
• Currently permitted to practice law in Nigeria 
• 8+ years of minimum relevant legal experience (partially or fully in the fintech sector, preferably).

Other Requirements:

• Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders such as compliance, finance, and sales teams
• Experience in Nigerian legal practice, particularly in Nigerian companies and commercial law
• Excellent legal, business judgment and strategic thinking, team-player with outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
• Experience in Nigerian corporate law and governance
• Exceptionally strong communication and interpersonal skills across all channels
• Ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure
• Efficient and creative problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, complexity, and nuance
• Able to take ownership of fast-paced projects with rapidly shifting priorities, managing them through to completion with patience and flexibility.
