Vice-Chancellor at New City University

New City University is a newly licensed private university in Nigeria, specifically located in Aiyetoro, Ogun State. The prestigious institution offer programmes in the following Faculties: Faculty of Basic Medical and Allied Sciences, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Computing and Sciences, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, and Faculty of Law.

The Governing Council of the institution invites suitable candidates to fill the position below:

Job Title: Vice-Chancellor

Location: Aiyetoro, Ogun

Key Responsibilities

  • The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive, Financial, Academic and Administrative Head of the University, and serves as the Chairman of many statutory bodies of the Senate. 
  • He/She is responsible to the Governing Council and the Board of Trustees on matters of policy implementation in the areas of finance, property/facilities, general day-to-day administration and good governance of the University. 
  • As the Head of a new and growing University, the candidate should be equipped with the drive and zeal to address, frontally, issues relating to infrastructural and academic development of the institution as well as the anticipated accelerated growth of its students' enrolment during his/her tenure.
  • Being a purposeful and vision-driven University, the candidate should, apart from his/her academic standing, possess the moral and spiritual qualities needed to meet the aspirations of the institution. 
  • Apart from being a widely acknowledged academic, the candidate must have held leadership positions in reputable universities in Nigeria as well reputable international institutions. 
  • Must also be able to relate well with all stakeholders of the University. Possessing the social and emotional skills to attract benefaction for both the physical and academic development of the institution will be an added advantage.
  • The candidate must possess a clear vision of the development agenda of the University during his/her tenure, which must be clearly stated in the curriculum vitae (CV) to be submitted. 
  • The Ability and skill to carry the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, staff, and students (alumni) along for the successful achievement of the goals of the institution are qualities also expected from the candidate.

Requirements

  • Must be a highly distinguished academic with a Ph.D Degree in any of the discipline offer by the New City University. 
  • Must be a Professor for a minimum of 10 years, and with ability to provide quality academic and administrative leadership;
  • Possession of proven track record of academic excellence to command the recognition and respect of national and international colleagues.
  • Publication of reasonable number of research journals, articles in high-impact journals as defined by Thomson Reuters ISI, Web of Science and similar reputable International scholarly platforms.
  • Demonstration of very high-level academic productivity at the Professorial level in the last three (3) years.
  • Consistently proven, demonstrable and documented ability to attract international research and developmental grants.
  • Evidence of wining funding and leading at least three (3) locally and internationally funded grant researches.
  • Proven successful international engagement and strong internal network in academic, research and development programmes.
  • A research Gate or Google Scholar hi-index of not less than 10, and even much higher citations.
  • Possess a clear vision for the further development of the University and speedy realization of its vision, mission and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrable ability to establish and maintain partnerships with local, national and international governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations.
  • Demonstrable ability to maintain and sustain partnerships with reputable industries both national and international organizations.
  • Exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract extra-statutory funds and mobilize other resources for the development of the University.
  • Possession of personal integrity in the management of funds and be able to deploy financial resources as appropriate for the development of the University.
  • Candidate must demonstrate commitment to accountability, rule of law, strength of character and transparency.
  • Demonstrate ability to attract, motivate and retain highly skilled and talented staff. in all categories, teaching and non-teaching.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills and possess the ability to build bridges between staff, students, (alumni) other members of the University Community and the University's stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on clarity, details, and deadlines. 
  • Proven ethical and transparent leadership style at national and international levels.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to foster effective relationships with a range of local, national, national and international stakeholders.
  • Appreciable level of ICT literacy;
  • Must have supervised at least 3 Ph.D students within the last 10 years
  • Must have given his or her inaugural lecture Enjoy excellent physical and mental health.
  • Must not be more than 60 years of age as at the date of assumption of duty as Vice-Chancellor.

Tenure and Condition of Service

  • By virtue of New City University Law, the Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five years. 
  • The remuneration and conditions of service of the Vice-Chancellor are largely similar to those applicable in other private as well as public universities in Nigeria and shall be stated clearly in the candidate's letter of appointment as approved by Council and the Board of Trustees.
