Job Title: Protection of Family Links Field Officer II
Under the guidance of the Protection of Family Links (PFL) Team Leader in Mubi, the PFL Field Officer helps plan, carry out, and monitor protection of activities, with a focus on Protection of Family Links activities.
The officer is responsible for managing PFL activities in their assigned area. This includes helping families look for missing loved ones through community outreach, collecting and following up on tracing requests, supporting unaccompanied minors, and contributing to needs assessments.
They work closely with Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) volunteers, by training and supporting them to build long-term capacity in the community.
The officer also communicates and collaborates with other ICRC teams, local partners, and relevant authorities, and represents the ICRC when interacting with beneficiaries and external contacts.
Your Role
Contributes to the analysis and periodical synthesis of all relevant information pertinent to the PFL activities.
Manages the caseload for his/her Area of Responsibility (AoR), including identifying and prioritising action by revising cases assigned, maintaining contact with enquirers and Unaccompanied minors (UaMs), organising calls for news, collecting follow-up information, etc.
Coaches, supervises, and provides feedback (quality control) to NRCS volunteers as they collect and treat PFL cases.
Assists in delivering capacity-building trainings for NRCS RFL Volunteers and other target groups when needed.
Supports in the compiling, cross-checking, and processing of volunteer incentives and other administrative tasks associated with PFL activities.
Develops and maintains contacts with the families of missing and/or other enquirers; understands their situation, needs, and requests.
Supports activities to respond to the different needs of the families of the missing persons and participates in the implementation of the accompaniment programme for families of missing persons.
In line with the Mapping and Referral Pathway of Services for people affected by the conflict, supports the sub-delegation in mapping and identifying service providers that can address the needs of families of the missing.
Participates in internal and external meetings whenever required by the department to represent the PFL file and enhances cooperation between departments, as well as knowledge of ICRC’s PFL activities.
Links PFL patterns and tendencies with other Protection files’ findings to ensure a holistic Protection understanding of their area of responsibility. Participates in activities of other Protection teams when required and useful.
Your Profile: Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in law, humanitarian affairs, social sciences, or any other relevant field
Minimum 3 - 5 years working experience, preferably in Protection work.
Working proficiency in English and Hausa is compulsory. Working proficiency in Kanuri is a plus.
Computer literacy: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), collaborative spaces.
Experience with case management databases.
Knowledge of the cultural and socio-economic environment in North-east Nigeria
Strong understanding of the local context (Adamawa and Southern Borno) is an asset.
