Job Overview
The Policy Innovation Centre is serving as the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) Secretariat in Nigeria. This role is to provide strategic leadership to the project, coordinate and align all project objectives with GPAP’s mandate for transition into circular economy, design, develop and operationalize critical activities related to NPAP in Nigeria. By applying Global Plastic Action Plan (GPAP)'s core principles, the NPAP seeks to shift efforts to address plastic pollution from fragmented strategies to integrated solutions that emphasize partnerships and collective action. These efforts will reduce plastic waste, protect ecosystems, preserve habitats, and safeguard livelihoods and public health. The role holder will work closely with the GPAP Secretariat, NPAP Chair and Ministry focal point, support the identification and engagement of Steering Board members, experts and task-force members, ensure the deliverables are completed in a timely manner and provide quarterly reports to GPAP.
Job Responsibilities
The manager shall manage all activities of Nigeria’s NPAP.
The Manager will be responsible for the overall coordination and strategic management of the Nigeria National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP).
This role requires a dynamic and results-driven professional who can provide high-level oversight, foster strategic partnerships, and ensure the successful implementation of Nigeria’s plastic action agenda in alignment with the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP).
Support the identification, onboarding, and active engagement of members of the NPAP Steering Board, subject matter experts, and technical task-force members.
Facilitate regular meetings and communication among governance bodies to ensure alignment and momentum across workstreams.
Collaborate closely with the National Action Map (NAM) tool partner and designated metrics consultants to ensure deliverables are completed accurately and within agreed timelines.
Review technical inputs, data analyses, and policy recommendations to maintain the quality and relevance of NPAP outputs.
Identify and engage strategic investment partners to support the implementation of Nigeria’s plastic action roadmap.
Explore and promote viable investment opportunities that advance circular economy models and plastic waste reduction initiatives in Nigeria.
Provide leadership and management oversight to NPAP Secretariat staff and any engaged consultants or service providers, ensuring that all team members are aligned with the NPAP work plan, performance goals, and deliverables.
Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports to the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP), highlighting key milestones, challenges, and lessons learned.
Track the implementation of the NPAP strategy and action plan, using established indicators and feedback mechanisms.
Represent the NPAP at public events, stakeholder meetings, and relevant fora.
Work with communication partners to raise visibility of NPAP activities and outcomes, fostering public awareness and stakeholder buy-in.
Requirements
A Master’s degree in Climate Change, Circular Economy, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years’ previous industry experience leading climate change or circular economy project in the development sector.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Capacity to engage and manage high-level stakeholders.
Outstanding leadership skills and ability to design and implement strategic communications and brand promotional strategies.
