Job Title: Chief Medical Director
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Reports To: Chairman and Executive Director

General Description
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the seniormanagement team, the Chief Medical Director shall provide strategic leadership and oversight of all clinicalservices, quality assurance initiatives, and healthcare delivery standards across the hospital.
The CMD is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, budget management and evaluating all clinical operations in alignment with national standards of medical practice and the goals of the hospital.
The Chief Medical Director shall be responsible for both clinical and administrative oversight at the Abuja branch.
The CMD shall provide strategic leadership across all departments, ensuring seamless integration of healthcare service delivery and institutional management.
Characteristic Duties
Management Functions:
Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical providers
Performs clinical supervision of medical staff, including regular performance appraisals and feedback to staff.
Provides supervision of clinical scheduling, call and leave for medical staff
Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training and orientation of new medical staff.
Ensures integration of medical services into overall comprehensive services.
Advises on the purchase of medical equipment.
Leads planning for the development of new clinical programs.
Facilitates medical staff/provider meetings
Performs or delegates responsibility for quarterly medical record reviews for all medical staff, focusing on quality of care and appropriate coding.
Supervises physician assistants and nurse practitioners in healthcare programs.
Assists staff with treatment modalities pertinent to PHC patient populations.
Oversee and coordinate the activities of visiting consultants to maintain service quality and adherence to hospital standards.
Recommend appointments of Head of clinicals to the Executive Director and Chairman.
Administrative Functions:
Development of standards and qualifications for medical personnel.
Approval of medical practice procedures and policies.
Keeps abreast of FTCA regulations and advises the management team on necessary changes.
Provides clinical guidance and regularly reports on clinical activities at the Board of Directors Meetings
Reviews clinical and patient care contracts for services provided.
Monitors compliance with regulations of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), NHIS, and NAFDAC.
Reviews clinical service contracts and MOUs to ensure legal and ethical compliance.
Represents the hospital at clinical and public health stakeholder engagements.
Ensures that the hospital’s clinical operations align with Nigerian law and international best practices.
Any other responsibilities as maybe directed by the Executive Director or chairman.
Strategic Functions:
Promotes the hospital’s clinical services to the public and private sectors, and plays a lead
role in client engagement, stakeholder outreach, and strategic partnerships aimed at expanding the hospital’s client base and revenue streams.
Oversee procurement and maintenance of medical equipment and consumables.
Provides direct clinical care, including patient consultations and the performance of minor surgical procedures, in accordance with his/her field of expertise or professional competence.
Any other responsibilities as maybe assigned by the Executive Director or chairman.
Requirements
Must be a medical practitioner registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years as a Consultant.
Possession of a Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians/Surgeons or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria may be an added advantage.
Demonstrable administrative and leadership experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
Strong ethical conduct, communication skills, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Experience in private hospital management will be an added advantage.
Must possess a current and valid license to practice medicine in Nigeria, issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Terms and Conditions
The appointment shall be for an initial term of one (1) year, beginning with a six-month probationary period. Upon satisfactory performance during this period, the contract may be renewed, with the prospect of confirmation as a permanent staff member thereafter.
The CMD shall report to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
The remuneration for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and mutually agreed terms of engagement."
