Nutrition Assistants supports direct implementation of activities – SFP, NFIs distribution and manage the activities of Lead Mothers, CNMs/SBCC/ Tombrown facilitators including active case finding and referrals, community based IYCF activities (peer mother/father support group meetings) home visits, supportive supervision for CHEWS, CNMs and reporting.
Responsibilities
Support early detection of all forms of malnutrition among children 6-59 months in the targeted locations.
Refer malnourished children to the appropriate nutrition program within the targeted locations.
Ensure MAM children are served in a dignified and appropriate manner.
Support the distribution of nutritional NFIs, supplements, food packages, or other program resources to beneficiaries.
Collect anthropometric measurements, dietary intake data, and other relevant information from program participants.
Maintain accurate records and databases of program participants, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
Provide basic nutrition education and counselling to program participants on topics such as healthy eating, food choices, and meal planning.
Assist in conducting individual or group nutrition sessions to address specific dietary concerns or health goals.
Support clients in accessing nutrition-related resources, services, and referrals as needed.
Collaborate with team members, including Nutritionists, Dietitians, Health Educators, and Community Health Workers, to ensure the effective delivery of nutrition services.
Communicate with program participants, caregivers, and community members to promote engagement and participation in nutrition programs.
Participate in meetings, trainings, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills related to nutrition and public health.
Work with the nutrition Officer to deliver SBCC to improve women and men's nutrition knowledge, attitudes and practices and promote healthy diets.
Work with the nutrition Officer to empower families and communities to improve their nutrition using locally available foods.
Work with the nutrition Officer to support in Strengthening the capacities of the community and local stakeholders in the management of integrated programs.
Work with the nutrition Officer to implement other tasks as might be required with relation to the INTERSOS Country Program in Nigeria.
Any other task assigned.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years’ professional experience as Nutrition Assistant.
Prior experience in an INGO is required.
Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory)
Analytical and reporting skills
Respect and adherence to protection principles
Capacity to work under pressure, flexibility
Work within the framework of IINTERSOS Nigeria’s core values.
Act as an ambassador for INTERSOS Nigeria, through professionalism and conduct.
