As part of our current advocacy drive, we are supporting the advancement of two gender-responsive bills in Nigeria’s National Assembly aimed at expanding women’s political inclusion.

Job Overview
To strengthen this effort, we seek to engage a Legislative Researcher (Consultant) to provide timely, rigorous policy research and legislative analysis in support of ongoing advocacy efforts.
The consultant may also be required to undertake broader research related to inclusive governance and public leadership reforms.
Objectives of the Role
To provide high-quality research and policy analysis that strengthens advocacy for the passage of two gender-responsive bills before the National Assembly.
To develop evidence-based tools, resources, and strategic insights that inform stakeholder engagement and campaign positioning.
To contribute to knowledge production around inclusive governance and institutional reform as it relates to women’s political participation.
Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities
Conduct legal and policy analysis of the two priority gender bills, as required.
Develop issue briefs, legislative summaries, policy memos, and talking points to inform internal strategy and external engagements.
Track and report on the status of the bills within legislative committees and plenary sessions.
Support the development of advocacy tools such as stakeholder maps, institutional position papers, and comparative policy notes.
Research global and regional legislative best practices related to gender quotas, reserved seats, and inclusive representation models.
Provide timely insights on emerging legislative opportunities or risks related to gender equity and governance.
Participate in internal strategy meetings and provide expert input on the legislative process.
Undertake ad hoc research tasks related to inclusive governance as required during the consultancy period.
Deliverables
Comprehensive briefings on the two gender-responsive bills as required.
Monthly bill tracking report and legislative engagement update.
Talking points, position papers, and briefing documents for advocacy engagements.
Final report with key insights and recommendations at the end of the consultancy.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent experience in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Gender Studies, or a related field.
3 - 5 years of experience in legislative or policy research, preferably within the Nigerian context.
Solid understanding of Nigeria’s legislative processes and gender policy frameworks.
Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex legislative issues clearly and concisely.
Commitment to gender equality, democratic governance, and inclusive policymaking.
Experience supporting advocacy efforts or working with civil society organizations is an asset.
Monthly Retainership
N150,000 (negotiable based on experience).
