Job Title: Technical Design Engineer, C&I Solar
Location: Abuja
Reports to: VP C&I Business - Africa
Division / Function: Commercial & Industrial (C&I)
Role Summary
Husk is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technical Design Engineer to lead and execute the site audits, system design, and technical development of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar energy projects ranging from 200kW to 10MW capacity.
The role spans On-Grid, Off-Grid, and Hybrid energy systems, covering the full solution lifecycle from feasibility through to implementation support.
Key Responsibilities
Site Assessments & Feasibility Studies:
Conduct physical site audits for rooftops, carports, and ground-mount solar installations.
Assess existing electrical infrastructure, energy demand profiles, and client operations.
Perform irradiance studies and shade analysis using industry-standard tools.
Gather data to develop technical and financial feasibility reports.
System Design & Engineering:
Develop detailed solar PV system designs (On-Grid, Off-Grid, and Hybrid).
Generate electrical drawings including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layout plans, and wiring schematics.
Conduct energy yield simulations and performance modeling using PVsyst, Helioscope, or HOMER.
Size and select system components: modules, inverters, batteries, protection systems, cabling, and structures.
Design integration with diesel generators and energy management systems (where applicable).
Technical Documentation & BOQ:
Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQs), equipment specifications, and scope of work documentation.
Provide technical support for proposals, tenders, and procurement.
Ensure designs comply with Nigerian electrical standards and international codes (NEC, IEC, IEEE, NERC, etc.).
Project Support & Coordination:
Collaborate with Project Managers during execution phases: construction, installation, and commissioning.
Provide technical clarification to vendors, EPC partners, and internal teams.
Support the development of monitoring, SCADA, and data logging frameworks.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Attributes:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Renewable Energy, or Power Systems Engineering.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in C&I solar project design (200kW to 10MW scale).
Proven experience in On-Grid, Off-Grid, and Hybrid system design and delivery.
Proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, HOMER, MS Excel, and SLD creation.
Solid knowledge of electrical system integration, battery storage (Li-ion, VRLA), and generator-PV sync.
Familiarity with Nigerian Distribution Company (DisCo) interconnection policies and load regulations.
Strong project ownership and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and in field conditions.
Flexibility to travel frequently across assigned project locations.
COREN, NSE membership nice to have.
Solar PV design certification (e.g. GSES, SEI, or equivalent).
HSE awareness or site safety certifications.

Salary: N400,000 - N700,000 monthly.
