Assistant / Associate Professor / Professor of Economics at the American University of Nigeria (AUN)

Job Title: Assistant / Associate Professor / Professor of Economics

Job Description

• The Assistant/Associate/Professor of Economics will be responsible for teaching, research and community service as may be requested by the Chair and Dean.
• The candidate contributes to preparing students to be applied, critical thinkers and problem solvers through innovative teaching and research.
• S/he will work closely with the Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structures that would translate to effective teaching and learning of courses in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria.
• Asides the teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the department’s administration and scholarly work by carrying out and disseminating high quality research general in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: The primary responsibility of a faculty member is teaching and supporting students through problem-centred learning. 
• Research: Faculty members are expected to undertake research in relevant areas of expertise and in line with university mission.
• Community Service: Faculty are to contribute to AUN community service and development activities

• Class Attendance: Faculty members should make clear that students are expected to attend class and complete required assignments. 
• Academic Advising: Faculty members must be available to assist students throughout the semester and maintain stipulated student office hours. 
• Department/Schools Meetings: Attending meetings on a regular basis and as necessary to facilitate communication and to accomplish the work required for the smooth operation of the department and school. 
• Attendance at Academic Functions: Full-time faculty members are expected to attend meetings of the faculty and any all-college meetings called by AUN administration. 

Requirements 

• Professor: Ph.D. degree in any field of Economics with at least 12 years of full-time relevant teaching and research experience in tertiary institutions. 
• Associate Professor (Reader): Same as for Professor but with at least 10 years of tertiary institution, full time, relevant teaching and research experience in tertiary institutions.
• Assistant Professor (Senior Lecturer): Same as for Professor but with at least 7 years of full time, relevant teaching and research experience in tertiary institutions
• An outstanding teaching and research record commensurate with career stage.
• Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
• Record of publication in peer-reviewed economics journals.
• Experience of developing research proposals for externally funded projects.
• Proven ability to lead and manage the department or other committee in the university.

Other requirements, abilities for the position:

• Experience of working in Africa.
• Experience of curriculum development.
• Experience of organizing conferences and workshops.
• Experience of developing research proposals for externally funded projects.
