The organization envisions a country where peace and development is enjoyed by all. GPD seek to build peace, gender equality, social justice, and foster democracy and governance at the community, local, state, and national levels.

Job Title: Programme Officer, Gender and Peace Building
Location: Benin City, Edo

Position Summary
The Gender and Peace Building Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing activities that promote gender equality, social inclusion, and conflict prevention within target communities in the state.
This role involves working closely with community members, local leaders, women’s groups, youth groups, and other stakeholders to build capacity, facilitate dialogue, and support initiatives that foster peaceful and inclusive societies.
The officer will report directly to the Program Manager, Gender and Peace Building.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement gender sensitive interventions and peace building initiatives in line with project objectives.
Facilitate community dialogues, sensitization campaigns, and training sessions on gender equality, women’s empowerment, social cohesion, and conflict resolution.
Support the establishment or strengthening of community structures that promote peaceful coexistence and gender equity.
Identify and document gender and conflict related issues within communities and propose context-appropriate solutions.
Collaborate with local authorities, traditional leaders, and civil society partners to advance gender and peace building objectives.
Integrate gender mainstreaming and conflict sensitive approaches into all program activities.
Prepare and submit timely reports on project progress, challenges, and success stories.
Ensure project activities comply with donor guidelines, organizational policies, and local cultural dynamics.
Support the GPD resource mobilization effort
Carry out other task assigned by management
Qualifications & Experience
BSc/HND in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, or related field.
4 - 6 years work experience.
Design and implement gender-sensitive interventions and peacebuilding initiatives in line with project objectives.
Facilitate community dialogues, sensitization, and training sessions on gender equality, women’s empowerment, social cohesion, and conflict resolution.
Support the establishment and strengthening of community structures that promote peaceful coexistence and gender equity
Identify and document gender and conflict-related issues within communities and propose context-appropriate solutions.
Integrate gender mainstreaming and conflict-sensitive approaches into all program activities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of gender equality concepts, frameworks, and practical approaches to mainstreaming gender in community development and peacebuilding.
Good knowledge of conflict analysis, prevention, and resolution strategies, including community dialogue and mediation techniques.
Ability to facilitate trainings, focus group discussions, and community sensitization sessions on gender and peacebuilding topics.
Familiarity with cultural and social dynamics that affect gender roles and conflict in the project area.
Excellent report writing, documentation, and storytelling skills to capture success stories and lessons learned.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
