Job Overview
As a GIS Analyst at Proforce Galaxies Limited, you will be responsible for processing and interpreting satellite imagery to extract actionable geospatial insights. You will contribute to the development of downstream services, such as Satellite Data-as-a-Service (SDaaS), and help integrate these insights into interactive web, desktop, and mobile platforms used by a diverse set of clients.
You’ll work closely with developers, data scientists, and system engineers to deliver high-quality geospatial products that support real-time decisions in industries like agriculture, urban planning, and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Geospatial Data Analysis: Process and analyze satellite-derived geospatial data (SAR, optical, multispectral) to support downstream services and customer applications.
GIS Workflow Development: Build end-to-end GIS workflows for extracting insights such as land use classification, vegetation indexing, deforestation tracking, and change detection.
Data Visualization & Mapping: Create intuitive, user-friendly maps, dashboards, and visualizations using platforms like ArcGIS, QGIS, Mapbox, or Leaflet for use in client-facing tools.
Application Integration: Collaborate with front-end and back-end developers to embed geospatial data and services into web, mobile, and desktop applications.
Data Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain validation pipelines to ensure accuracy, precision, and integrity of geospatial data used across platforms.
Satellite Mission Planning Support: Provide upstream technical support by defining geospatial requirements for satellite tasking, including coverage area, temporal frequency, and spatial resolution.
Data Pipeline Optimization: Work with midstream engineering teams to improve the delivery of satellite data from ground stations to processing environments.
Scripting & Automation: Develop scripts in Python, R, or equivalent to automate repetitive GIS tasks, geospatial analysis, and report generation.
Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation for geospatial methodologies, metadata standards, and customer deliverables.
Research & Innovation: Stay current with advances in GIS, remote sensing, and earth observation to continuously improve services and introduce new capabilities.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, GIS/Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or related fields.
Proven experience working with satellite imagery, including SAR, multispectral, and optical datasets.
Proficiency with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or ERDAS Imagine.
Skilled in geospatial scripting languages like Python (with libraries such as GDAL, rasterio, geopandas), or R.
Experience building dashboards and maps for web or mobile applications is a strong advantage.
Strong understanding of geospatial data formats (GeoTIFF, shapefiles, WMS, WFS, etc.).
Familiarity with image classification, supervised/unsupervised learning, or machine learning in a geospatial context is a plus.
