Job Title: Baker and Pastry Chef
Location: Shimawa-Lotto Road, Ogun
Employment Type: Full-time
Responsibilities
Baking and Pastry Production: Prepare and bake a wide range of breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts, adhering to recipes and quality standards.
Recipe Development: Develop new recipes and seasonal menu items to keep the offerings fresh and appealing.
Decorating: Decorate pastries and desserts using various techniques, such as piping, glazing, and chocolate work, to enhance their visual appeal.
Quality Control: Ensure that all baked goods meet quality standards in terms of taste, texture, appearance, and portion size.
Plate Presentation: Arrange and present desserts on plates in a visually appealing manner.
Inventory and Ordering:
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of baking ingredients, supplies, and equipment.
Ordering: Order necessary ingredients, supplies, and equipment in a timely manner to ensure smooth operations.
Waste Reduction: Implement efficient production and inventory control practices to minimize waste.
Menu Development and Collaboration:
Menu Planning: Contribute to menu planning by suggesting new items and considering customer preferences, seasonal ingredients, and profitability.
Collaboration: Work closely with the head chef, other kitchen staff, and management to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of menu offerings.
Guest Interaction: Interact with guests in a professional and engaging manner, responding to inquiries and accommodating special requests.
Staff Supervision and Training:
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate baking staff, including pastry and apprentices.
Guidance and Direction: Provide guidance and direction to staff, delegating tasks and offering coaching and support.
Staffing Needs: Identify staffing needs and assist with recruiting and training personnel.
Hygiene and Safety:
Sanitation and Hygiene:Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment, adhering to food safety and sanitation regulations.
Equipment Maintenance:Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and operated.
Additional Responsibilities:
Production Planning:Manage baking schedules and production timelines to meet service demands.
Record Keeping:Keep accurate records of inventory, production, and other relevant information.
Event Support:Prepare desserts, centerpieces, and displays for events.
Qualifications
Education and Training:
A High School Diploma or equivalent.
A culinary training certificate or degree in pastry or baking is highly desirable
Experience:
At least three (3) years of previous experience in pastry or baking roles is essential.
Skills:
Baking Expertise: Strong foundation in baking techniques, including precise measurements, mixing methods, and temperature control.
Creativity and Innovation: Ability to develop new and unique flavor combinations and creations,
Attention to Detail: Precise measurements, accurate baking times, and intricate decorations,
Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced bakery kitchen environment.
Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication with kitchen staff and other chefs.
Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Flexibility in adapting to changes and solving problems that may arise in the kitchen.
Organization and Orderliness: Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Other:
A food handler's license and a basic understanding of food health and safety regulations.
Proficiency in using various kitchen equipment and appliances.
A strong work ethic, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for pastry arts is desired.
