Job Description
A CMAM (Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition) provider at LABDI is a role focused on implementing and supporting programs that address acute malnutrition in children, often within a specific geographic area like Yobe State in Nigeria.
LABDI plays a crucial role in providing technical and organizational support, including training and monitoring systems for CMAM programs.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
CMAM providers at LABDI are involved in the practical aspects of implementing CMAM programs, which includes:
Treating children with severe acute malnutrition, often through outpatient therapeutic care programs.
Providing supplementary feeding for children with moderate acute malnutrition.
Mobilizing communities to participate in the program and ensuring community ownership.
Working with health facilities and community health workers to deliver care.
Participate in planning and undertaking health surveys, rapid assessments, as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the health program activities.
Responsible for providing inputs and data for monthly health activities' reports in timely manner.
Provide critical healthcare to people who are in emergency situations.
Responding to catastrophic events such as natural disasters disease outbreak, the will nurses apply all expertise in providing holistic care under the most challenging conditions.
Other Responsibilities:
Provide health education disinfection and precautions.
Train-the-Trainer model to promote empowerment & sustainability.
Carry out health education activities and disseminate information to the public to prevent panic.
Patient Care:
Ensure and conduct the medical consultations with full history taking, clinical examination and provide a diagnosis and prescribe treatment accordingly following the protocols and universal precautions
Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team.
Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services.
Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state.
Management and Efficient Referral System:
Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
Internal & External Representation:
Participate actively in meetings when required.
The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
LABDI CMAM providers are involved in monitoring the progress of the program and evaluating its effectiveness.This may involve:
Collecting data on the number of children treated, their nutritional status, and treatment outcomes.
Capacity Building:
A significant part of a CMAM provider's role is to build the capacity of local health workers and community volunteers to manage and implement CMAM programs.This may involve:
Training community volunteers to screen children for malnutrition using MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference).
Providing technical support to health workers on treatment protocols and program implementation.
Supervising and mentoring staff to ensure quality of care.
Advocacy and Awareness:
LABDI CMAM providers may also be involved in raising awareness about malnutrition and advocating for increased resources and attention to this issue.
