Job Title: House Master (Male)

Job Summary
The House Master is responsible for the overall management, welfare, and discipline of students within a boarding house.
The role combines pastoral care, supervision, leadership, and administration to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that supports the academic and personal development of each boarder.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Care & Student Welfare:
Provide daily care, supervision, and emotional support for students in the boarding house.
Build strong, trusting relationships with boarders to support their well-being and development.
Monitor student health, hygiene, and personal conduct; refer serious concerns to appropriate school personnel.
Promote moral values, discipline, and social responsibility among students.
Create a “home away from home” atmosphere for boarders.
Supervision & Discipline:
Maintain order, discipline, and appropriate standards of behavior within the house.
Supervise daily routines: wake-up, meals, prep time, recreation, prayers (if applicable), and bedtime.
Ensure punctuality and adherence to hostel and school schedules.
Conduct regular roll calls and room inspections.
Academic Support:
Monitor academic progress and study habits of students during prep and study times.
Liaise with classroom teachers and academic coordinators to address academic concerns.
Encourage participation in evening and weekend enrichment programs.
House Administration:
Maintain accurate records including attendance, health logs, incident reports, and inventory.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding students’ welfare and performance.
Manage and report on maintenance needs, supplies, and other logistical issues within the house.
Ensure compliance with all school policies, safeguarding procedures, and child protection standards.
Teamwork & Leadership:
Lead and work with assistant house staff, hostel tutors, and matrons to ensure effective care and supervision.
Attend boarding staff meetings and contribute to the development of boarding policies and activities.
Coordinate weekend and holiday activities, outings, and celebrations for boarders.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of an NCE, B.Ed., B.Sc. or related discipline (Education or Child Development preferred).
At least 3 years of experience working in a residential school or student welfare setting.
Proven ability to lead and mentor young people with firmness, empathy, and fairness.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and discretion.
Basic First Aid and Child Safeguarding certification (or willingness to obtain).
Knowledge of Islamic boarding routines and values (if in a faith-based setting) is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
This is a live-in position requiring evening, weekend, and overnight supervision.
Accommodation and meals are provided.
On-call responsibility in case of emergencies or special events.
