Global Peace Development (GPD) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in April 2002 and focuses on promoting peace for development in Nigeria. The organization envisions a country where peace and development is enjoyed by all. GPD seek to build peace, gender equality, social justice, and foster democracy and governance at the community, local, state, and national levels.
The Director of Programs will be responsible for driving the strategic direction, effective delivery and quality assurance of all Global Peace Development programs across Nigeria. This role is critical to ensuring that GPD’s diverse interventions achieve meaningful, measurable and sustainable impact in line with the organization’s mission and strategic vision.
Acting on behalf of the Executive Director when delegated, the Director of Programs will provide high-level oversight and coordination of all programmatic areas, including: Gender Equality, Conflict Prevention and Peace Building, Democracy and Governance, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Livelihoods and Environmental initiatives. The role will also ensure that all programs integrate GPD’s core values of Transparency, Integrity, Fairness, Accountability and Mutual Respect.
This position demands a visionary leader with a strong grasp of Nigeria’s development landscape and a proven ability to guide multi-sectoral teams across various states.
Importantly, the Director of Programs will work closely with donors, partners, government stakeholders and communities to foster partnerships, mobilize resources and uphold GPD’s reputation for quality and integrity.
In addition, the Director of Programs will spearhead new program design and growth, ensuring that proposals and projects are responsive to emerging needs, aligned with global and national development priorities and compliant with donor requirements.
The role requires balancing strategic oversight with hands on mentoring program teams to deliver high standards of program implementation at all levels.
Provide overall leadership for the planning, coordination and execution of all GPD’s programmatic and strategic objectives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision and mission.
Serve as the principal representative of GPD in high-level meetings, network and partnership forums with donors, government agencies and community stakeholders effectively advocating for GPD’s priorities.
Act on behalf of the Executive Director in all operational, programmatic and representational matters whenever delegated.
Programs Team Lead:
Oversee the full lifecycle of all programs across GPD’s core thematic areas, from conceptualization, proposal development, implementation and monitoring to evaluation and reporting.
Ensure programs are delivered on time, within scope and within budget, meeting both GPD’s internal standards and donor compliance requirements.
Lead regular program reviews and quality assurance visits to strengthen results-based management and adaptive programming.
Resource Mobilization:
Oversee program budgets in coordination with the Finance team to ensure prudent financial management, forecasting and alignment with approved project activities.
Oversee Resource Mobilization teams in identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities and developing fundable proposals.
Ensure that donor and partner contractual obligations are fully understood by program teams and effectively fulfilled.
Compliance and Staff Development:
Ensure compliance with GPD’s policies, safeguarding standards, donor rules across all operations and program activities.
Lead the preparation and submission of timely, high-quality programmatic and organizational reports to the Executive Director, Board and donors.
Support organizational audits, evaluations and learning initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
Education and Professional Background
A Master’s Degree (or higher) in a relevant field such as International Development, Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health or related disciplines.
Additional certifications or training in Program Management, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Humanitarian Standards or Organizational Leadership will be an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in the non-profit or international development sector, managing multi-sectoral programs across diverse locations.
At least 5 years in a senior leadership role, overseeing complex program portfolios, supervising multi-disciplinary teams and managing substantial budgets.
Proven track record of developing high quality, fundable proposals that have secured donor funding, with ability to provide concrete examples of concept notes, proposals or bids that were successfully funded by major institutional donors
Demonstrated expertise in GPD’s core program areas, including gender equality, peacebuilding and conflict prevention, democracy and governance, WASH, livelihoods or environmental initiatives.
Proven track record of successfully acting on behalf of an Executive Director or Chief of Party or serving as the primary organizational representative in strategic forums, donor meetings and high-level partnerships.
