Data Collector - Anambra Month 36 ITN Durability Monitoring Study at Malaria Consortium

Posted on Mon 21st Jul, 2025 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

Malaria Consortium is one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specialising in the comprehensive prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable and under privileged populations. We increasingly find our work on malaria can be effectively integrated with other similar public health interventions for greater impact and therefore expanded our remit to include child health and neglected tropical disease interventions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Data Collector - Anambra Month 36 ITN Durability Monitoring Study

Location: Anambra

Job Description
Purpose of the assignment:

  • The purpose of the terms of reference (TOR) is to engage research personnel who will gather month-36 net durability data for cohort campaign nets and retrieve samples of ITNs for insecticidal effectiveness studies.

Scope:

  • The survey will be used to collect net durability data for labelled cohort nets, retrieving net samples from the cohort households (as this is the last survey), and giving out replacement nets in Anambra State.

Methods:

  • Cohort households and campaign nets have been identified for longitudinal net durability monitoring. In total, 288 households have been selected in 24 wards in various Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state.
  • The durability monitoring includes interviews to collect various data in cohort households using mobile devices, and physical inspection of the labelled cohort nets and collecting various data on these and other nets owned by the households.
  • Twelve households were selected in each ward during the post-campaign survey in November 2022 out of those that have received nets to establish a cohort of nets for longitudinal durability monitoring (i.e., 288 in total from 24 wards). These households have been visited at months 12 and 24 after the campaign.
  • The cohort households will be visited again at month 36 for interviews and collection of a sample of remaining cohort nets.
  • Cohort campaign nets will be retrieved for insecticidal effectiveness studies (bioassays and chemical analysis). New replacement nets will be given to the households for each collected cohort net. The following procedure will be used to sample the cohort nets for collection during the interviews.
  • The cohort households will be identified within the digital questionnaire before the survey. From a master list of cohort nets that were still being used at month 24, 60 cohort nets will be retrieved during the month 36 survey from every household until the 60 cohort nets are successfully retrieved. During household interviews, if a cohort household has been selected for net retrieval, nets that have been in use are collected (after labelling the “door” side) and new replacement nets are issued.

Field Data Collector:

  • Will be required to attend training prior to the survey.
  • Carries out data collection in cohort households. These include:
  • Obtaining written consents
  • Administering interviews with heads of households
  • Collecting ITN physical integrity data by collecting data on each net owned by each household
  • Retrieving of sampled nets (if the cohort household has been selected for this purpose), by labelling the exit and entry (“door”) side of the net before retrieval, taking a photo of the unique identifier on the label, and packing the net
  • Giving out new replacement nets
  • Takes good care of the mobile device issued for data collection and ensures the device’s battery is kept charged.
  • Uploads the data to the server at the required frequency according to relevant guidelines.
  • Ensures confidentiality of respondents’ personal data during and after interviews.
  • Reports to the team leader any issues and helps to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete data from all sampled households in 24 wards collected and uploaded (team leaders).
  • 60 cohort nets retrieved from selected cohort households for insecticidal effectiveness studies and handed over to Malaria Consortium staff (team leaders and data collectors).
  • Replacement nets are transported and given to households from which nets are retrieved for insecticidal effectiveness studies (team leaders and data collectors).
  • Process reports submitted by each team leader and coordinator (coordinators and team leaders).

Requirements

  • A minimum of a BSc degree in a health-related discipline and social sciences.
  • Experience in conducting household surveys.
  • Experience in electronic data collection systems such as SurveyCTO or ODK.
  • Good knowledge of the English language.
  • Ability to give attention to detail.
  • Excellent proficiency in both the Igbo language.

Note: For this position, previous working experience with MC and in SMC an added advantage.

31st July, 2025.
