The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
We are seeking a dedicated, ethical, and mission-driven Field Manager to lead the implementation of NRC’s programs in Adamawa State, Yola Field Office.
This role is vital to our humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria, and we’re looking for a solid leader who brings both compassion and operational expertise.
As Field Manager, you will provide strategic direction, ensure operational excellence, and support the overall success of our field teams and projects.
Your leadership will be key in managing support function - Logistics, Finance, HR; and security function, while maintaining the highest standards of compliance with NRC policies and donor regulations.
You will play a central role in mentoring and developing a young, passionate team — helping them grow while upholding NRC’s core values of neutrality, independence, and accountability.
Your experience in conflict or post-conflict settings will help navigate the complexities of field work in Northeast Nigeria, ensuring programs are delivered safely, effectively, and with long-term impact.
This position is part of our Area Management Team.
What you will do
Contribute to assessments of new operational areas, identifying potential intervention locations, and developing strategies for program implementation.
Assist in developing concept notes, project proposals, and budgets to expand programme activities.
Maintain regular communication with local authorities (political and security), and humanitarian actors within Adamawa State.
Represent NRC in coordination initiatives at the intervention area level.
Contribute to advocacy initiatives.
Ensure the overall safety of staff, including completing security risk assessments for potential new intervention areas.
Conduct regular checks on enumerators and community-based workers to ensure their selection aligns with NRC standards and guidelines.
Lead the Construction Completion Verification Teams (CCVTs) to assess the quality of completed construction project activities in the Adamawa State operational areas.
Support the Area Manager in training all staff and implementing capacity-building initiatives.
Ensure that all NRC staff members in Adamawa State complete their work and development plans and conduct monthly performance feedback and check-in sessions.
Ensure that NRC’s data collection systems function effectively, with information stored and analysed appropriately.
Contribute to establishing spending plans, ensuring that the master budget is consistently updated and reflects the cost-effective use of available funds.
Lead in the closure and handover of NRC operational facilities in Adamawa State in close collaboration with the Area Management Team and Logistics Manager.
Implement due diligence and capacity enhancement activities for NRC Strategic and Implementing Partners in Adamawa State.
What you will bring
Professional Competencies
Professional background and solid experience in Support Functions (Logistics, Finance, Human Resources), Office, and Programme Management.
Minimum of eight years of experience in humanitarian leadership and operations management, particularly in conflict and post-conflict settings in Nigeria
Experience in overseeing the implementation of multi-sectoral and integrated humanitarian, durable solutions, and emergency response programs.
Team leadership and capacity development experience
Knowledge of own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and oral
Computer literate in Microsoft Office, including strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills.
Context/specific skills, knowledge and experience:
Experience in managing support functions and humanitarian programs in insecure contexts.
Experience in establishing relationships and coordinating with government and traditional leaders.
Experience in leading change management programmes in humanitarian action.
