The Design Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all architectural and engineering design activities for the hospital, ensuring alignment with clinical and operational requirements.
Using Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, this role drives clash‑free design integration, manages consultant outputs, and delivers accurate, constructible design packages.
The Design Manager serves as the technical interface between the design team, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure that the final design meets quality standards and project objectives.
Detailed Responsibilities
Lead thedesign coordination process across architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, and clinical planners to deliver integrated solutions.
Develop and maintain a BIM Execution Plan (BEP), including modeling standards, data exchange protocols, and coordination workflows.
Perform routineclash detection and issue resolution meetings to eliminate conflicts during the construction lifecycle.
Ensure the Design model is up-to-date, fully federated, and compliant with international healthcare design standards.
Work closely with clinical planning teams to integrate operational workflows, adjacencies, infection control standards, and patient flow requirementsinto the design.
Support procurement by providing technical specifications and reviewing vendor submittals for compliance with design intent.
Coordinate design submissions for regulatory approvals.
Oversee production of construction drawings, shop drawings, and as-built models for final handover.
Ensure digital deliverables are structured for facility management systems post-completion.
Provide training to junior designers and ensure all consultants adhere to agreed digital collaboration standards.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related design discipline.
Master’s degree in Healthcare Design, Architecture, or Engineering Management is a preferred.
Professional registration (e.g., ARCON, COREN) preferred.
Minimum 15 years in design management with at least 5 years in a healthcare or large complex facility project.
Proven expertise in BIM workflows, clash detection, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
Experience managing external design consultants and ensuring compliance with healthcare and international design standards.
Deep understanding of healthcare planning guidelines, infection control design, and patient flow principles.
Excellent coordination and problem-solving skills for resolving design conflicts.
Strong visualization and presentation skills for design reviews.
Ability to lead a team of designers and manage multiple design packages simultaneously.
