Job Title: Pharmacy Technician
Location: Sokoto
Main Purpose of the position
Supporting the drug supply management in the designated facilities under the supervision of the Mission Pharmacy Manager of the project and according to MSF health policies and protocols, in order to contribute in the guarantee of the proper management and distribution of drugs and medical devices
General Accountabilities
In cooperation with the Pharmacy Manager, assisting in the supervision, management and control of the medical stock in the project in order to avoid ruptures, losses and gross overstock of drugs and other supplies and overseeing and monitoring its storage conditions
In cooperation with the Pharmacy Manager, assisting on a monthly basis with preparation and approval of order requests, ensuring they are completed in timely manner to prevent unnecessary orders in between. Following up on drug ruptures.
In cooperation with the Pharmacy Supervisor and other MSF team members, assisting in the supervision, management, follow up and control of medical/supply stock in the MSF office, expat houses, and MSF cars. This includes physical count, ordering and monitoring of expired dates.
Assisting with the collection of consumption from facilities on at least a monthly basis and collecting data about number of patients.
Cooperating with and assisting the Pharmacy Manager in all related monthly reports, and under the Pharmacy Manager’s supervision, communicating and providing medical data to relevant MSF team members
Improving and following up the monitoring systems in place.
Supporting the MoH counterparts in their responsibilities regarding monitoring of drug consumption, stock management and preparing/receiving orders.
Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Fol-lowing the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
Assisting in preparing and organizing training sessions for MSF staff.
Providing programs continuity during supervisor’s absence and handovers; sharing knowledge of program with incoming staff in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
Stock Management and Storage:
Ensure proper storage, stock management, and supply processes, as well as hygiene and security procedures, tools, and protocols (including controlling pests and rodents) to maintain good storage conditions (temperature, humidity, and light exposure), in accordance with MSF protocols and national regulations, and in cooperation with the Supply Department (TBC).
Manage and replenish all stocks in Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPREP), Emergency Kits, and boxes within the project, ensuring close monitoring of expiry dates.
Carry out regular inventories of EPREP stock – both during emergency and non-emergency period.
Ensure appropriate storage of all items in the EPREP Warehouse and pharmacy in collaboration with supply team.
Maintain cold chain and promptly report abnormalities.
Timely report-missing materials, damage, or theft.
Ordering, Supply, and Replenishment:
Prepare Internal Requests (IRs) for field stock refills whenever needed, and send them to the supply team after obtaining approval from the Project Medical Referent/Medical Team Leader (PMR/MTL).
Ensure appropriate delivery, reception, and recording of local orders, in close collaboration with the supply department.
Prepare orders of the different consumption units (departments and other units), ensuring proper packaging and dispatching.
Give timely advice on orders of medical and drug materials for the project to ensure efficient and appropriate consumption patterns.
Ensure effective and efficient supply to the intervention team during emergency respone based on the scenarios in the EREP Plan or other units managed/supported by MSF OCA Sokoto Project during non-intervention period according to orders and available stocks, while maintaining the cold chain when necessary.
Dispensing and Distribution:
Dispense drugs to patients according to medical prescriptions either during emergency response or non-emergency response.
Issue medical supplies to relevant units and provide information on keeping conditions to sustain their functional and therapeutic potency.
Support in the day-to-day management of the pharmacy store in Noma and ITFC during non-emergency periods. This includes the preparation of orders for different consumption units, dispensing of medication/medical materials, and consumption tracking of the dispensed medications.
Consumption Tracking and Reporting:
Support the NERU Project Medical Referent (PMR) in forecasting future needs to rationalize the budget and ensure drug availability.
Keep updated records of items received and issued into EPREP stock as well as support the Pharmacy Supervisor in Sokoto Project in the same function during non-emergency periods.
Report any anomalies or changes in consumption patterns to the NERU PMR/MTL.
Inform the NERU PMR/MTL as soon as any stock reaches the alert limit.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
Ensure correct entries on the stock cards and software.
Update stock files regularly and inform line managers on their status (shortfalls, over-stocking, expiry dates), in order to maintain secure stock levels.
Emergency Response (EPREP)
Prepare and update emergency response kits based on the EPREP scenario that NERU is responding to (e.g., meningitis, measles, cholera, diphtheria, displacement).
Ensure availability and readiness of drugs and medical materials in the emergency preparedness stock, in line with the response protocol.
Liaise with the PMR/MTL to ensure emergency kits are tailored to the anticipated caseload and treatment needs.
Monitor usage of emergency kits during deployment and ensure timely replenishment.
Support deployment of medical items and commodities (drugs and other medical consummables) by ensuring all pharmaceutical items required for field operations are efficiently packaged, labeled, and transported with attention to cold chain maintenance.
Other Responsibilities
Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications

Education: Qualified pharmacist technician
Experience: Experience collaborating with local pharmacy systems (MoH and private) is an asset
Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting
Languages: Mission language essential; local working language would be an asset
Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel
