Job Title: Nursing Team Supervisor
Location: Gummi, Zamfara
Job Description
Main Purpose of the position
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.
Responsibilities
Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Report any malfunction to the project's biomedical service.
Carry out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-making.
Give feedback/ reports to the medical focal point.
Section / Context Specific Accountabilities:
Stock Management and Storage Supervise Patient Care
Monitor and support all nursing care activities in treatment facilities to be assigned by the NAM/MTL.
Support the NAM in drafting a nursing team roster for efficient and effective nurse team coordination.
Ensure that all IPC standards are in place and implemented in health facilities and health care providers are trained enough to practice IPC standards in health facilities.
Monitor Medication Use and Supply Consumption
Track administration of treatment protocols, ensuring correct dosing and timing, particularly for medication, and supportive care drugs in the assigned treatment facilities – CTU/CTC, PHCs and General Hospitals by NAM/MTL.
Ensure and document medication tracking.
Support facility teams to manage stock levels of medicines, IV fluids, syringes, and other critical consumables.
Ensure Protocol Compliance
Supervise the correct application of MSF treatment protocols, the nursing part.
Support MSF E-Pool and MoH nurses to reinforce safe medication administration practices and monitor adverse drug reactions.
Conduct bedside coaching when deviations from standard care are observed.
Reporting and documentation
Ensure relevant data is captured using the standard data tool, stored with ensured confidentiality, and analyzed.
Compile daily field updates on patient nursing, critical cases, stock levels, team challenges, and solutions taken.
Share timely and structured information with the Nursing Activity Manager.
Flag to the NAM urgent needs such as medication shortages, HR gaps, or referral requirements immediately.
Supervise completion and accuracy of patient records, including nursing notes, treatment sheets, and medical forms.
Capacity Building
Identify training needs, organize and coordinate training, coaching and supervision for MSF and MoH health care providers and other MSF staff members based on the findings of learning needs assessments, knowledge, attitude and practices, questionnaires and observation.
Provide bedside mentoring and coaching to MSF E-Pool and MoH nurses on nursing best practices in outbreak case management.
Encourage a learning environment and identify any refresher training needs in IPC, documentation, and medication safety.
Support MSF E-Pool and MoH Nurses with training on proper triage, nursing patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, lumbar puncture support, and follow-up care.
Requirements

Education: Speciality (nurse or anesthetist) diploma essential.
Experience: Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Languages: Mission and local language essential.
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet)
Competencies: Commitment to MSF principles, Teamwork and Cooperation, Results and Quality oriented, Behavioural Flexibility and Stress Management.
