Wadata Relief Care Initiative (WRCI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and humanitarian and Developmental organization that strives for a just world that advances children's rights and equality for girls and young people in Nigeria by promoting equitable governance and human rights. Established in 2018. WRCI started operations in 2019 and registered as a nonprofit making organization with Corporate Affairs Commission in 2023.
In July 2009 the Boko haram insurgence began in the Northeast, and in 2011 the bandit Conflict in the Northwest escalated, the Federal Government announced interventions that affected the lives of the general population. To fight the insurgence/banditry to reduce its impact on the population, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Nigeria collaborated to fight the insurgence's menace. In 2018, WRCI launched activities to provide succour to people affected by the conflict and violence.
This project,“Strengthening Community Resilience against Extremism and Violent Extremism through Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Women and Youth Associated with Violent Extremism,”will be implemented in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria. It aims to address the multifaceted challenges posed by armed groups, including bandits and the Lakurawa insurgents, which have severely impacted local communities through violence, displacement, and disruption of livelihoods.
The initiative focuses on rehabilitating and reintegrating women and youth affected by or associated with violent extremism, while simultaneously strengthening the resilience of the broader community. One of the key objectives is to restore and strengthen the livelihoods of affected communities by providing vocational skills, entrepreneurship training, and support for income-generating activities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of livelihood interventions that enhance the economic resilience of beneficiaries, particularly youth and women.
Conduct market assessments to identify viable vocational skills, business opportunities, and value chains aligned with local needs and market demand.
Work closely with beneficiaries to develop tailored livelihood plans and support their participation in vocational and entrepreneurship training programs.
Coordinate with trainers, community leaders, and partner organisations to ensure effective delivery of livelihood activities.
Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of livelihood interventions, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
Facilitate access to resources such as startup capital, tools, and materials needed for income-generating activities.
Promote sustainable livelihood practices that consider environmental and social factors.
Support the integration of gender-sensitive approaches within livelihood programming to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities.
Provide ongoing mentorship and follow-up support to beneficiaries to enhance their business skills and success.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Economics, Business Development, Social Sciences, or related fields.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in livelihood programming, preferably in conflict-affected or fragile contexts.
Strong knowledge of vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and market systems.
Experience working with vulnerable populations, including youth and women, in livelihood enhancement.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to analyze market trends and adapt programs accordingly.
Proficient in MS Office and basic data management.
Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an asset.
