Job Title: Fertility Consultant
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical:
Records and reports test results and examination of information to diagnose the medical condition of the patient.
Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
Monitor patients' condition and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary.
Perform caesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
Prescribe or administer therapy, medication and other specialised medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
Refer patients to a medical specialist or another practitioner when necessary.
Treat diseases of female organs.
Conduct research to develop or test medications, treatments, or procedures to prevent or control disease or injury.
Consult with or provide consulting services to other physicians.
participate in Clinical observership and trainings, also to adopt the role of clinical supervisor to medical officers.
Discuss and explain fertility treatment options, including IVF, and address patient concerns.
In charge of developing individualised treatment plans based on diagnostic evaluations and medical history.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including embryologists and nurses, to ensure comprehensive care.
Performing retrieval procedures, embryo transfers, and other related reproductive techniques.
Monitor and adjust medication protocols to optimise treatment outcomes.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as hormone assays, ultrasounds, and genetic screenings.
Identify factors contributing to infertility and recommend appropriate interventions.
Provide emotional support and counselling throughout the fertility treatment journey.
Stay abreast of advancements in reproductive medicine and contribute to ongoing research initiatives
Administrative:
Incharge of planning, implementing and administering health programs in the hospital for the prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses.
Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports,and examination results.
In charge of directing and coordinating the activities of nurses, medical officers, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.
Participate in continuing professional development at the local and international levels.
Participate in clinical recruitment exercises for the hospital.
Ensure continuous development in all aspects of your clinical skills and competence.
In charge of reviewing and creating SOP for the management of common clinical practice as deemed fit, seeking guidance from the Medical Director.
Publish articles in at least a National journal in a year and also to be actively involved in clinical governance which includes audits, training of nurses and doctors.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, documenting treatment plans, procedures, and outcomes.
Attend conferences and engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Job Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised institution
Postgraduate qualification (Fellowship or Membership) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (e.g., FWACS, FMCOG, MRCOG)
Additional certification or fellowship in Reproductive Medicine and/or Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is highly desirable
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years post-NYSC clinical experience
At least 3 years of direct experience in fertility treatment, assisted reproduction (IVF, ICSI), and gynaecological endocrinology
Proven track record of managing couples with infertility and offering patient-centred treatment solutions.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of reproductive health, fertility diagnostics, and ART protocols
Competence in interpreting hormonal profiles, pelvic scans, semen analysis, and hysterosalpingography
Experience in counselling patients and discussing treatment options with empathy and clarity
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with embryologists, nurses, and other specialists
Commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous professional development
Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in the use of EMR systems and fertility software tools is an added advantage
