Benin Electricity Distribution Plc. (BEDC) is one of the retail electricity distribution companies licensed by the federal government Benin Electricity Disco ("BEDC” or "Benin Disco”) is one of the successor distribution companies (Discos) created following the unbundling and privatization of the state-owned Power Utility, Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc. BEDC is responsible for retail distribution of electricity in Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States with geographical coverage of 55,770 square kilometers. The company operates from twenty five (25) business districts with approximately 350 offices located across the four (4) states with about 13 million people and about 4 million households.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Cable Jointer

Locations: Delta, Edo and Ondo
Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• Assist in fault clearing and the immediate restoration of feeders Correctly use and maintain power tools, test equipment and measuring instruments.
• Identify different types of power cables and different cores and pairs for control (multi-core) cables.
• Prepare different types of cables with different cable sheathing systems and accessories for the jointing process.
• Joint copper or aluminium conductor cables using soldering, mechanical or compression techniques.
• Terminate cables using soldering, mechanical or compression techniques.
• Insulate cable joints and terminations according to the specifications or code of practice using heat shrink tubing or cold mix compound.
• Laying of power cables on the ground surface or in trenches as per relevant and applicable standards. 
• Termination of power cables in switchboard, panels, transformers and lines.
• Reduction in feeder outage period by a quick response rate to fault clearing.
• Preventive maintenance of 33 & 11kV outdoor and indoor breakers.
• Installation of cable at the injection substation.
• Termination of cable on equipment at the injection substation.
• Installation of R.M.U. Feeder pillars at the injection substation.
• Use safety equipment, protective devices and equipment.
• Correctly instruct, supervise and transfer skills to any apprentice or semi-skilled worker assigned to him to ensure safety and quality of work.

Requirements

• Minimum of SSCE, Trade test, OND in Electrical Engineering or any related field.
• 2 - 5 years of work experience in a similar role.
