The Dance Instructor at Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) is responsible for delivering dynamic and engaging dance instruction to primary school pupils.
This role involves fostering creativity, physical coordination, rhythm, and self-expression through various dance forms.
The Dance Instructor plays a crucial part in upholding DTA's mission to "create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids" and its vision to "discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child," by ensuring individualized teaching and promoting artistic Skill Acquisition within the SHRID niche.
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate dance lessons that cater to different skill levels and age groups within the primary section.
Teach various dance styles (e.g., traditional, contemporary, creative movement, basic ballet, hip-hop) as relevant to the DTA curriculum.
Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on:
Driving Skill Acquisitionin dance techniques, rhythm, and choreography.
Applying Individualized Teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and physical abilities.
Promoting clear Dictionand expressive communication through movement.
Utilize a variety of teaching methods, music, and creative exercises to make dance accessible, enjoyable, and challenging for all pupils.
Set clear learning objectives for each lesson and provide constructive feedback to students to support their progress.
Prepare pupils for internal performances, school events (e.g., graduations, cultural days), and external competitions as appropriate.
Choreography & Performance:
Develop and choreograph dance routines for school assemblies, concerts, and other special events.
Guide students through rehearsals, ensuring they understand and execute choreography effectively.
Foster stage presence, confidence, and teamwork among performers.
Assessment & Reporting:
Design and administer appropriate assessments to evaluate student understanding of dance concepts, technical execution, and performance skills.
Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted support to students.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, dance progress, and performance evaluations.
Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents, highlighting artistic achievements and areas for development.
Studio Management & Environment:
Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment conducive to physical activity and creative expression.
Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure an orderly and respectful atmosphere during dance sessions.
Ensure the dance studio/space is safe, clean, and well-maintained, with appropriate flooring and equipment.
Manage and maintain inventory of any dance-related equipment or props.
Student Welfare & Support:
Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of students, ensuring safe practices and addressing any concerns promptly.
Provide individualized support and encouragement for students who require additional assistance in mastering dance skills.
Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers to ensure holistic development and address student needs.
Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned, overseeing general welfare and academic progress of a designated class, which may include teaching other subjects.
Professional Development & Collaboration:
Actively participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development sessions, and training programs, particularly those related to dance education and performing arts.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum materials, and enhance the overall academic and arts program.
Contribute to school events and activities as required.
Utilize the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.
Policy Adherence:
Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.
Uphold the professional standards and values of Discovering Talents Academy at all times.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, Physical Education with a specialization in Dance, or a related field. Professional dance certifications or extensive performance experience are highly desirable. A Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) is an added advantage.
Experience: 2 - 4 years of proven experience teaching dance to children at the primary school level.
Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of various dance techniques, choreography, music-movement connection, and child-appropriate dance pedagogy.
Technological Proficiency: Proficient in using music playback equipment and relevant software for lesson planning and instruction. Experience with school management software (e.g., DTA software) is an advantage.
Communication: Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain movements clearly and inspire young learners.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
