The French Teacher at Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) is responsible for delivering dynamic and engaging French language instruction to primary school pupils.
This role involves fostering proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing French, while also cultivating an appreciation for French culture.
The French Teacher plays a crucial part in upholding DTA's mission to "create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids" and its vision to "discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child," by ensuring individualized teaching and promoting linguistic Skill Acquisition within the SHRID niche.
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate French lessons in accordance with DTA's blended British-Nigerian curriculum and academic standards.
Implement DTA's SHRID niche, particularly focusing on:
Driving Skill Acquisitionin French language proficiency (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, conversational skills).
Applying Individualized Teaching strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and language acquisition paces.
Promoting clear Diction and accurate pronunciation in French among pupils.
Utilize a variety of teaching methods, interactive activities, multimedia resources, and authentic materials to make French language learning accessible, enjoyable, and immersive for all pupils.
Set clear learning objectives for each lesson and provide constructive feedback to students to support their linguistic progress.
Prepare pupils for internal performances, cultural events, and external language examinations or competitions as appropriate.
Cultural Immersion & Appreciation:
Introduce students to aspects of French culture, traditions, and geography to provide context and enrich language learning.
Organize and facilitate cultural activities, celebrations, or projects related to French-speaking countries.
Foster an open-minded and respectful attitude towards diverse cultures and languages.
Assessment & Reporting:
Design and administer appropriate assessments to evaluate student understanding of French vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and communicative abilities.
Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted support to students.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, language progress, and grades.
Prepare comprehensive progress reports for parents, highlighting linguistic achievements and areas for development.
Classroom Management & Environment:
Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment conducive to language acquisition and cultural exploration.
Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure an orderly and respectful atmosphere during French lessons.
Encourage active participation, verbal practice, and confident communication in French among students.
Ensure the classroom is well-resourced with appropriate French learning materials and visual aids.
Student Welfare & Support:
Monitor the academic and social-emotional well-being of students, identifying and addressing any concerns promptly.
Provide individualized support and encouragement for students who require additional assistance in mastering French language skills.
Collaborate with parents, support staff, and other teachers to ensure holistic development and address student needs.
Serve as a Form Tutor/Class Teacher as assigned, overseeing general welfare and academic progress of a designated class, which may include teaching other subjects.
Professional Development & Collaboration:
Actively participate in departmental meetings, school-wide professional development sessions, and training programs, particularly those related to second language acquisition and French pedagogy.
Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum materials, and enhance the overall academic and language program.
Contribute to school events and activities as required.
Utilize the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes.

Strictly adhere to all DTA policies and procedures, including those related to punctuality, dress code, safety, and ethical conduct.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in French Language, French Education, Linguistics, or a related field. A Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) is an added advantage.
Experience: Minimum of [e.g., 2-4] years of proven experience teaching French to children at the primary school level.
Subject Matter Expertise: Native or near-native fluency in French (both spoken and written). Strong knowledge of French grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, and culture. Understanding of child-appropriate language acquisition methodologies.
Technological Proficiency: Proficient in using educational technology, language learning software, and multimedia resources for instruction. Experience with school management software (e.g., DTA software) is an advantage.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French, with the ability to explain linguistic concepts clearly and inspire young learners.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
