We are dedicated to save lives, alleviate the suffering of children, women, and other vulnerable people; and to maintain human dignity during and in the after math of man–made crises and natural disasters; as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situation; and to promote the right of children, women, and vulnerable people in the society.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Media and Communication Assistant Officer
The Media and Communication Officer plays a vital role in shaping public perception and strengthening stakeholder engagement. This position is responsible for crafting and executing strategic communication plans, managing media relations, creating compelling content, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
Acting as a key spokesperson, the officer promotes the organization’s mission, vision, and goals to internal and external audiences.
Responsibilities
Content Production & Reporting:
Assist in the regular development of situation reports, weekly reviews, bulletins, annual reports, and donor materials, including success stories, photos, and video/audio content.
Contribute to the drafting, editing, and structuring of outreach and media materials for internal and external dissemination.
Create weekly context updates and identify lessons learned, constraints, and project impact for inclusion in quarterly reports.
Media Engagement & Public Relations:
Coordinate with program focal points to develop press releases, quotations, media pitches, and media briefings.
Manage proactive and responsive media relations to enhance visibility and generate positive press coverage.
Organize and lead PR-related events, including media tours to project sites.
Act as spokesperson and support to affiliate press reps to secure local/international media coverage.
Maintain media logs, monitor coverage, and provide regular feedback to the Senior Program Manager.
Digital and Social Media:
Manage and update LABDI’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, etc.), post updates, run campaigns, and track engagement.
Create multimedia content (graphics, short videos, infographics) tailored to digital platforms.
Engage online influencers, bloggers, and digital media outlets to amplify messaging.
Radio and Community Outreach:
Develop communication/media plans using radio content for key projects (e.g., “Strengthening Project Response” in Yobe and Borno, and “Transparency and Accountability in Government”).
Collaborate with partner radio stations to produce and broadcast live magazine programs in line with regulations.
Select relevant discussion topics, identify appropriate guests, and monitor broadcast quality and impact.
Listen to radio episodes, report on content, and provide constructive feedback to production teams.
Program and Policy Integration:
Ensure communication strategies align with LABDI’s rights-based programming approach and child safeguarding policies.
Collaborate with the LABDI management team to develop and manage real-time crisis communication tools and data collection.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication efforts and ensure compliance with branding and policy guidelines.
Visual Documentation:
Attend field activities, trainings, and meetings to capture high-quality photographs and success stories.
Support visibility and outreach initiatives, including organizing media visits and donor events.
Submit all media content and summaries for inclusion in donor reports and internal documentation.
Other Duties:
Support the development of themes and guest selection for radio programming.
Keep track of media coverage (print, broadcast, online) involving LABDI.
Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in media and communications, preferably in an NGO or development setting.
Proven ability to manage media relations, social media accounts, and multimedia content creation.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Familiarity with radio broadcasting and community media is a plus.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of safeguarding, ethical communication, and rights-based programming.
Proficiency in tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software is an asset.
