The Niger State College of Education, Minna was established as an Advanced Teachers’ College by the defunct North Western State Government on November 1st, 1975 when there was need to establish an additional Advanced Teachers’ College in order to meet the soaring teachers needs in the State. In 1983, the College was upgraded to the status of College of Education by the defunct Civilian Government in the Second Republic through the Niger State Edict N.S.L.N Number 3 of 1983.
With the College’s new status, the nomenclature of the Principal of the College was changed to the Provost and that of the Administrative Secretary to the Registrar. The Edit was amended under Niger State Edict No. 1 of 1988, and further amended by Niger State Law No. 21 of 2011.

Duties / Responsibilities
The Provost is a Principal Officer
He is the Chief Executive of the College and is responsible for the day-to-day Management and operations of the College.
He provides the required Academic, Administrative and Professional leadership for the College in executing the broad policies laid down by Governing Council for the achievement of the goals and objectives of the College.
He is a member of the College Governing Council in charge of providing periodic reports on the progress of the College in terms of personnel finances, infrastructure and ensuring that the decisions of Council are carried out promptly.
He is responsible for approving and authorizing all payments and expenditure of the College in accordance with approved threshold and Governing Council decisions.
He Provost must ensure sound financial management system and discipline in College.
He shall also foster good report with relevant organs of the State Ministry of Tertiary Education and other professional bodies that would lead the College to the status of academic excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidate must possess the following:
A Ph.D in a field relevant to at least one programme in the College with a minimum of eighteen (18) years post qualification Teaching/Research Experience.
A Senior Teacher/Researcher holding top Administrative Leadership position in the College of Education Sector.
Candidate must be able to show strong Academic, Administrative Leadership initiative and creativities in policy formulation and implementation, good human relation and positive managerial attitude.
Candidate must show evidence of good track record in result oriented research reaching high National and International level in their research achievement.
Candidate must be a good conduct, possess sense of discipline, dedication, drive, resourcefulness and be able to command the respect and loyalty of the members of staff and students of the College.
He shall not foster personal, social, ethnic, political, religious and other sectional interest.
Possession of professional teaching qualification, a minimum of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), including registration with the Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is mandatory.
Candidate must not be below the rank of Chief Lecturer in a College or a Reader/Associate Professor in a University
Evidence of community services at both local and national levels.
Morally sound, of impeccable character and proven integrity, free from financial embracement and is not convicted or indicted in any Court of Law or Commission of inquiry.
Evidence of professional standing and honours
Must be proficient in ICT packages and capabilities
Candidate must be a person of vision, a goal getter, and one that can produce and execute a strategic plan for the College.
Terms of Appointment
The appointment is for a single term of five (5) years.
Salary: The Salary and Condition of Service is applicable to the post as approved by the State Government.
