Job Title: Assistant Head of Accounts
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
The Assistant Head of Accounts will support the Head of Accounts in managing the organization’s financial operations, reporting, compliance, and ensuring the effective execution of accounting procedures.
This role also involves supervising the accounts team, maintaining internal controls, handling tax-related activities, and supporting strategic financial planning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Oversee the computation, filing, and remittance of all statutory taxes (e.g. VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE, Pension).
Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and regulations, including timely submission of tax returns.
Liaise with tax authorities (e.g., FIRS, LIRS) to resolve tax queries and audits.
Maintain accurate tax records and provide support during external audits and reviews.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions in the accounting system.
Work with auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and reviews.
Monthly proof of all Treasury Assets and Liabilities General Ledgers.
Provide guidance and supervision to the accounting team.
Organize training and development initiatives for team members.
Identify areas for improvement in accounting and tax processes and recommend solutions.
Assist in the implementation of accounting software and automation tools.
Support the Head of Accounts with special financial projects as required.
Qualifications
The ideal person must possess a minimum qualification of a good First Degree in any related feild.
Must possess a relevant professional certification of ACA, ACCA.
Must possess a minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in Finance and Accounts Functions of a National Microfinance Bank or a Commercial Bank.
Must have experience in coordinating external audit of the Accounts activities with one of the top 4 audit firms (PwC, KPMG, Deloitte, EY).
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to promptly identify and address project risks and issues.
