Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) is an independent international think tank, established as a not-for-profit Civil Society Organization in 1988 and incorporated under the Nigeria Companies Act of 1968 by H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, who was also the Founding Chairperson. Job Title: Head of Democracy and Capacity Building
Location: Idi-Iroko, Ogun
Role Description
The Head of Democracy and Capacity Buildingwill work closely with the Executive Director by developing policy-driven curricula, conducting governance training, facilitating dialogues on governance challenges, and leading research initiatives that will strengthen governance systems across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Develop governance curricula focusing on policy analysis, governance structures, and democratic participation.
Plan and execute workshops and training sessions for policymakers, civil society leaders, and governance advocates.
Facilitate discussions on governance challenges, including corruption, electoral reforms, and the rule of law.
Facilitate capacity strengthening and training of electoral observers through specialised training programmes and support mechanisms.
Monitor and assess governance trends and produce reports to influence governance reforms.
Advocate for inclusive and participatory governance models in partnership with relevant stakeholders.
Lead the development of governance-related research, papers, and policy recommendations.
Prepare proposals and engage in fundraising activities to secure necessary funds for governance-related projects.
Prepare annual work plans, budgets, and reports on governance program activities.
Reach on and identify funding opportunities such as grants, partnerships for processing and follow-up by the Executive Director.
Contribute to ALF’s quarterly newsletter, research papers, policy statements, and ALF’s positions on governance and leadership issues in Africa.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Law and Diplomacy, Development Studies, Peace and Security Studies, Sociology and related fields.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in governance, democracy, public policy, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a senior advisory or programme leadership role.
Proven experience in designing and implementing governance training and capacity-building programmes in an NGO setting.
Experience in research, advocacy, and publication of governance-related reports and policy briefs.
Track record of securing funding through grant writing and fundraising initiatives.
Experience working with governments, international organisations, civil society, and electoral bodies in Africa.
Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to translate findings into practical policy recommendations.
Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills, with experience leading high-level discussions.
