Descrioption
We are looking to engage a competent and experience QHSE Officer (Quality Health, Safety and Environment) for the Lagos team.
This incumbent will support the implementation and enforcement of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) policies and procedures across Daystar Power’s workplace and our client sites.
The QHSE Officer is responsible for promoting a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards, assisting in inspections, audits, incident investigation and reporting, and supporting day-to-day QHSE operations to maintain safe, clean, and compliant work environments.
We are seeking a hardworking, motivated, and well-organized individual with a focus on continuous improvement to exceed expectations on providing full-time Health, Safety, Environment and Facilities support to the on-site/corporate office personnel and ensure that all practices are in compliance with regulatory requirements while ensuring that Employees follow established policies, standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Always Enforce adherence to Daystar Power’s Quality Health Safety and Environment policies and procedures in all Daystar Power business presence.
Support the monitoring and enforcement of safe electrical work practices during project installations, or solar system maintenance activities. Ensure strict adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during electrical isolation and energization activities.
Conduct regular inspections, monitor fire safety systems, emergency exits, and general housekeeping to maintain a safe working environment in both office and warehouse facility.
Support fire drills, first aid training, and emergency response planning.
Ensure proper issuance, tracking, and inventory management of PPE. Support the inspection, certification, and recertification processes for PPEs.
Support internal and external audits; follow up on non-conformities and corrective actions.
Assist in developing and reviewing site-specific risk assessments and method statements.
Monitor driver behavior using the weekly IVMS reports and address high-risk trends (e.g., over speeding, hash breaking, and more).
Support weekly, monthly or quarterly health and safety training for Daystar Power Staff, contractors and vendors.
Assist in ensuring the conformance of the organization activities to QMS ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015
Assist in preparation and review of all relevant QHSE related documentation.
Participates in process audits, internal audits or external audits.
Other duties as determined by hierarchy.
Requirements
Education:
B.Sc / HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Certification like Institute of Safety Professionals Of Nigeria (ISPON), National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), or Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) will be an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience in QHSE role within renewable energy, construction, or industrial environments.
Basic knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, ISPON Level 3) will be an added advantage.
Working knowledge of work at height, emergency response, PPE management, and hazard identification techniques.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence positively operational staff and the organization’s safety culture.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and documentation control systems.
Must be safety-driven, organized, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Working knowledge in Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems, Environmental Discharges, Incident Command Systems, Incident Investigation Tools, HSE Auditing Techniques
Proficiency in English Good communication skills and accurate reporting Proficiency in MS Suite: Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
Willingness to travel when required on the job.
Language Proficiency: English.
