Solidarites International (SI) is an international humanitarian NGO which, for more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their vital needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly involved in the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the first cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in around twenty countries, SI's teams - 2000 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers - work with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Apprentice
Locations: Monguno, Ngala - Borno and Gusau - Zamfara

Goal / Purpose
- Apprentices shall be based at the SI field office in Ngala, Monguno and Gusau and shall learn on the job through hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of WASH infrastructure in their LGAs of residence.
- The WATSAN officer shall deploy and shuffle the apprentice under their charge to be able to cover 70% of their time on hands on experience through on the job training on operation and maintenance on WASH infrastructure at the LGAs, 20-25% on theoretical learning delivered by the WATSAN officer/WASH TL at LGA level and 5-8% on induction, assessment and reporting. All subsectors shall entail engagement with WASH Management Committees (WMC).
- He/she will comply with the core humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, humanity and independence as well as with the principles and mandate of Solidarités International at all times.
Main Tasks
Implementation of Water and Sanitation Activities:
Carpentry Apprenticeship:
Assist in constructing and maintaining wooden structures essential for WAS project infrastructure, including sanitation facilities, water stations, and makeshift shelters
- Assist in measuring, cutting and assembling wood components for WASH infrastructures
- Learn and apply carpentry techniques for sanitation facilities and water stations
- Maintain tools and ensure safety compliance.
- Support carpentry experts in installations and repairs.
- Compile and share a report on completed repairs.
Plumbing Apprenticeship:
Assist in installing and repairing pipelines and accessories, submersible pumps, faucets, and sanitation fixtures:
- Learn troubleshooting techniques for hand pumps
- Learn troubleshooting techniques for leaks and water supply issues.
- Support drainage system maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
- Compile and share a report on completed repairs
- Solar system installation and repair Apprenticeship: The apprentice will assist in solar panel installations, maintenance, and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support solar panel mounting, wiring, and connection to energy systems.
- Learn troubleshooting methods for solar power failures.
- Assist in battery storage maintenance at the base.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Compile and share a report on completed repairs.
Profile Forsaken
- Studies: Primary school certificate, O’Levels, Diploma, HND, and Recent Graduate.
- Professional experience: 0 – 1 Year
- Languages: Basic English and Fluency in Local Languages.
- Computer skills: None.
- Personal Qualities: reliable, honest, very good organisation, resistance to stress. Demonstrate a keen aptitude and appetite for learning and personal development. Good interpersonal skills (communication)and a team player.
IT Skills:
- Basic IT and business skills training will be integrated into the carpentry cum Masonry, Plumbing and Solar installation training.
- The Apprentice shall work within SI HR Terms and Conditions and communicate and coordinate well with others, displaying a high level of Teamwork.
What we offer
Monthly stipend of N60,000.
