Job Title: Beach Master
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Job Responsibilities
Ability to sail / maneuver vessels. Coordinate and oversee all beach operations, including the arrival, departure, and berthing of vessels, as well as the loading and unloading of cargo and passengers.
Liaise with vessel captains, port authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient beach operations, including adherence to schedules and safety protocols.
Willingness to sail offshore on stop-gap/salvage operations.
Direct and supervise beach crew members, assigning duties, providing training, and ensuring compliance with operational procedures and safety regulations.
Monitor weather conditions, tidal patterns, and other environmental factors that may impact beach operations, and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
Inspect beach facilities, equipment, and infrastructure regularly to ensure functionality and safety, coordinating maintenance and repairs as needed.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of beach activities, including vessel movements, cargo handling, personnel/crew assignments, and safety incidents.
Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, accidents, and other incidents, implementing emergency procedures and coordinating with relevant authorities.
Stay informed about industry developments, regulations, and best practices related to beach operations, and implement improvements as necessary.
The Beach Master assists the Port Captain and Head, Operations in crew and harbour / jetty management to ensure vessels are crewed, operated and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards. Issues time off to offshore crew and document crew disposition.
The Beach Master is responsible for secure berthing of vessels at the base jetty.
Conduct pre and post deployment sea trials of vessels in conjunction with other units as required. Understanding of vessels pre-mob expectations
Carry out routine checks on the Navigation equipment and report the status to the Port Captain and Head, Operations.
Supervises all day-to-day Marine operations activities within the base including harbour Operations.
Maintains contacts with the offshore crew with a view to their availability, scheduling and deployments without undue favoritism.
Responsible for reception, classification, storage and delivery of all portable or movable items onboard or dispatched to/from the port. This he has to do in liaison with Supply Chain, QHSSE and Engineering.
Inspect vessels to ensure seaworthy conditions, follow up maintenance, and repair activities to correct deficiencies after sea trials.
Responsible for supervision at all phases of deck operations at the base, and ship husbandry (vessels cleaning, painting and housekeeping).
Liaise with the Port Captain and Head, Operations for Government Security Forces and their accessories mobility on and off OMS Boats (pre and post deployment).
Liaise with the QHSSE Department and assist in the implementation of all Maritime Codes, IMO regulations, ISM Code and vessels inspections.
Performs any duty assigned by the Port Captain and/or Head, Operations.
Educational Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
Educational Qualifications:
Chief Mate/ Master Certificate of Competency.
B.Sc. / Higher National Diploma in Nautical Science or Associate certificate from NIMASA approved Maritime Institute.
STCW mandatory Certificate.
SSCE/First Leaving School Certificate.
Membership of relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a Maritime, Oil and Gas Company either as a former seagoing Captain or Beach / Harbour Master.
Ability to sail / maneuver vessels. Willingness to sail offshore on stop-gap basis / salvage operations.
Understanding and previous experience in the implementation of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001 and 45001 will be an added advantage.
