Job Title: Accountant
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
To oversee the accounting operations of the organization, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, manage cash flow, and support strategic financial planning for business growth and compliance.
Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger postings.
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and company policies.
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
Ensure timely closure of accounting periods.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Lead the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts in collaboration with department heads.
Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective measures.
Provide management with actionable insights on cost control and revenue optimization.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
Monitor daily cash flow and maintain adequate liquidity for operations.
Manage banking relationships, negotiate credit facilities, and optimize interest costs.
Authorize and supervise payment runs, ensuring proper approval protocols.
Taxation & Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure timely filing and payment of taxes, including VAT, PAYE, WHT, and corporate income tax.
Liaise with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
Maintain compliance with FIRS, State Inland Revenue Service, and other relevant authorities.
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
Implement and monitor internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
Identify and address financial risks, fraud indicators, and operational inefficiencies.
Support both internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Team Leadership & Development:
Supervise, mentor, and train finance team members to improve performance and productivity.
Allocate workloads effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
Promote a culture of integrity, accuracy, and accountability.
Strategic & Operational Support:
Provide financial input for business plans, tenders, and project evaluations.
Participate in management meetings to advise on financial implications of operational decisions.
Recommend process improvements for efficiency and cost savings.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting.
Compliance rate with statutory and regulatory deadlines (target: 100%).
Variance between budget and actual (within acceptable threshold).
Audit findings resolved on first submission.
Efficiency in accounts receivable collections and payables management.
Requirement
Interested candidates should possess relevant qualifications.
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.
Analytical Ability: Excellent skills in data analysis, trend identification, and problem-solving.
IT Proficiency: Skilled in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, Tally) and advanced MS Excel.
Leadership: Ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication for reporting to management and liaising with external bodies.
Integrity & Confidentiality: High ethical standards in handling sensitive financial data.
Salary
N100,000 - N200,000 Monthly.
