Job Title: Chief Technology Officer
Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Description
As Chief Technology Officer (CTO) you will provide strategic and technical leadership for the development, implementation, and evolution of the bank’s entire technology stack.
This role owns the enterprise’s technology architecture, engineering delivery, and innovation agenda — ensuring that platforms are scalable, secure, and future-ready in line with business and regulatory demands.
You'll operate at the highest organisational level, defining and leading the institution's technology direction within overarching business objectives, assuming full accountability for all technology-related initiatives and outcomes.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Define and execute the enterprise technology strategy aligned with corporate growth, customer experience, and regulatory compliance.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive committee on all technology-related matters, including risk, resilience, and innovation.
Champion the bank’s digital evolution, ensuring technology is a competitive enabler, not just a support function
Architecture & Engineering Excellence:
Lead the development and governance of enterprise architecture across core banking, digital channels, middleware, and cloud platforms.
Oversee engineering delivery, DevSecOps practices, and technical standards to enable scalable and agile product development.
Drive system modernization, infrastructure optimization, and service reliability engineering (SRE) practices.
Operational Resilience & Cybersecurity:
Ensure that all technology operations are resilient, compliant with local (e.g., CBN, NDPR) and international standards, and prepared for business continuity challenges.
Oversee cybersecurity frameworks, incident response readiness, and infrastructure hardening to protect against evolving threats.
Innovation & Emerging Technology
Lead the exploration, validation, and deployment of emerging technologies (AI, cloud-native services, open banking APIs, blockchain, etc.) to improve product delivery and operational efficiency.
Establish partnerships with fintech, technology vendors, and academic institutions to drive innovation.
Talent, Culture & Leadership:
Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary technology organization focused on accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Attract, retain, and mentor top-tier technology talent within Nigeria and the broader African technology ecosystem.
Drive agile mindsets, product thinking, and collaboration across business and technology functions.
Governance, Risk & Regulatory Engagement:
Engage proactively with regulators (CBN, NDPC, etc.), auditors, and internal governance committees to ensure technology practices meet all required standards.
Serve as a board-level technology representative for risk, audit, and strategy discussions.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Master's degree in Technology Management or Innovation preferred.
Relevant certifications in enterprise architecture, cloud, or agile (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Architect, SAFe).
10+ years in senior technology roles, including 5+ years in architecture or engineering leadership
Experience delivering large-scale systems in complex environments
Background in cloud-native development, cybersecurity, and modern infrastructure
Skills & Attributes:
Proven expertise in core banking platforms like Finacle or Oracle FLEXCUBE.
Strong leadership in hybrid cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and VMware.
Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes for infrastructure automation.
Deep knowledge of SD-WAN, Zero Trust, and enterprise network security (Cisco, Fortinet).
Track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure and cloud transformation.
Engineering-first mindset with fluency in DevSecOps and modern delivery models.
Strong communicator with the ability to engage executive and regulatory stakeholders.
