Graphic Designer at Malaria Consortium

Malaria Consortium, established in 2003, is one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specialising in the comprehensive prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable and under privileged populations. We increasingly find our work on malaria can be effectively integrated with other similar public health interventions for greater impact and therefore expanded our remit to include child health and neglected tropical disease interventions.

Malaria remains a public health problem despite progress in the last two decades. Even though the overall under-five mortality rate (U5MR) reduced by 15.9 percent, from 157 to 132 per 1000 live births between 2008 and 2018. The reduction in infant mortality rate (IMR) during the same period was 10.7 percent (from 75 to 67 per 1000 live births), with no noticeable change in the neonatal mortality rate over the same period (NDHS 2019).

Project Overview

• Perennial Malaria Prevention (PMC) formerly known as Intermittent Preventive Treatment in infants (IPTi) is the administration of preventive antimalarial drugs to children to provide personal protection against malaria where transmission rates are moderate to high.
• Despite the WHO recommendation PMC is not yet recommended as one of the interventions in the Nigerian Malaria Control Policy. Providing evidence on feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of the intervention at field level will be key for policy uptake.
• Malaria Consortium received funding to carry out an effectiveness-implementation hybrid project on feasibility and effectiveness of PMC in Nigeria.
• It is aimed at generating the required evidence to inform policy and possible scale up of PMC in Nigeria and ultimately contribute towards a reduction in under five mortalities in the country.
• The aim of this project is to generate the required evidence to enhance the adoption of PMC policy and scale up intervention and ultimately reduce childhood deaths due to malaria in Nigeria.

SP - PMC LOGO:

• To brand the PMC Effect intervention, a logo will be developed to effectively communicate key messages to the target audience on the importance of preventing malaria in children using PMC.
• This initiative aims to enhance awareness of PMC and routine immunization, promote acceptance of the intervention, build trust among caregivers and healthcare providers, and ultimately increase demand for both PMC and routine immunization services.
• The logo design will serve as a vital visual tool within the project, fostering recognition and acceptance of PMC across the community. It will incorporate co-created key messages to ensure relevance and resonance with the intended audience, thereby reinforcing the PMC messages through strategic visual communication.

Purpose of the assignment:

• The purpose of this assignment is to design PMC Logo to communicate with the audience as a symbol of acceptance.

Specific tasks for consultan

• The following activities will be carried out by the graphic designer.Revise initial draft of PMC logo based on recommendation of stakeholders (NMEP, NPHCDA, MC) and interphase with stakeholders for messaging and illustrations, based on a mutually agreed brief.
• Ensure all materials comply with malaria Consortium approved colour, style, sizes and formats and develop creative materials aligned with the branding requirement of relevant stakeholders
• Pre-test all content for understanding, acceptability and relevance with the target audiences.
• Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and target audiences to refine and finalise the logo design
• Review final layout
• Submit overall report of assignment.

Deliverables:

• Finalised PMC Logo
• Overall report of assignment done.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:

• HND or B.Sc in Design fine arts or related field is a plus.
• National or state consultancy expertise with at least 5 years’ experience in developing Logo design, and pre-testing of Logo
• Proven graphic designing experience.
• Experience working on similar assignments in the past.
• Familiarity with the EPI and malaria programmes
• Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as in design and illustration etc.
• Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency graphic design software.

Desired:

• Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian public health sector.
• A proven ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing.
• Ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Good writing and reporting skills.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.
