Job Title: Reliability Engineer
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Role Summary
The Reliability Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of upstream oil and gas facilities.
The role focuses on analyzing equipment performance, identifying potential failures, and implementing strategies to enhance asset integrity, availability, and lifecycle performance.
The Reliability Engineer will apply reliability-centered maintenance principles, root cause failure analysis, and predictive maintenance techniques to optimize operational efficiency, reduce unplanned downtime, and drive continuous improvement in asset reliability.
Develop and implement asset reliability strategies and maintenance programs to enhance equipment uptime, reduce failures, and optimize lifecycle performance.
Apply reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), root cause analysis (RCA), and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) techniques to improve asset performance.
Define preventive and predictive maintenance plans tailored to critical upstream production and drilling equipment.
Performance Monitoring & Data Analysis:
Monitor reliability KPIs, including Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and equipment availability.
Leverage data analytics and digital tools (CMMS, historian, and predictive monitoring systems) to track equipment performance and anticipate failures.
Maintain a reliability database and recommend updates based on equipment history and performance data.
Risk Management & Integrity Assurance:
Conduct risk assessments on production equipment and facilities to identify potential failures and impacts on production and safety.
Support asset integrity programs, including corrosion monitoring, inspection schedules, and fitness-for-service evaluations.
Collaborate with QA/QC and HSE teams to ensure compliance with international standards (API, ISO, ASME).
Project & Turnaround Support:
Provide reliability input during project design, commissioning, and start-up to ensure maintainability and long-term integrity.
Participate in shutdowns/turnarounds to ensure reliability activities are embedded in planning and execution.
Support engineering modifications and upgrades with reliability analysis and recommendations.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:
Liaise with operations, drilling, maintenance, and engineering teams to align reliability initiatives with production goals.
Prepare and present reliability reports, highlighting performance gaps, corrective actions, and continuous improvement plans.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians in reliability methodologies and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
7 - 10 years of experience in upstream oil and gas operations, preferably in reliability or maintenance engineering.
Certification in Reliability Engineering (CRE), RCM, or Asset Integrity Management is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, static equipment, and subsea/production facilities.
Experience in CMMS (SAP, Maximo) and reliability tools/software.
Key Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret large sets of performance data.
Proficiency in reliability engineering tools (RCA, FMEA, Weibull analysis).
Excellent knowledge of asset integrity, corrosion management, and maintenance strategies.
Good communication and presentation skills for technical and management audiences.
Competencies:
Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of upstream production systems and equipment reliability.
