Summary
The Logistics Manager plays a critical role within Olam's supply chain operations, overseeing and optimizing the end-to-end movement of goods—from sourcing to delivery.
This strategic role demands strong execution capabilities and the ability to manage complex logistics networks while ensuring cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance.
The Logistics Manager will collaborate closely with internal departments (sourcing, production, sales, finance) and external stakeholders (suppliers, transporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers) to ensure the seamless and timely flow of materials and finished products.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of logistics principles, strong negotiation skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to Olam’s core values: Collaborative, Agile, Resourceful, Entrepreneurial, and Sustainable.
Develop and implement logistics strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with Olam’s business objectives.
Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced efficiency across the logistics network.
Transportation Management:
Oversee all transportation activities, including carrier selection, rate and contract negotiation, route optimization, shipment tracking, and performance monitoring.
Ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods via road, rail, sea, and air.
Warehouse & Inventory Management:
Manage warehouse operations, including storage, handling, and inventory control.
Implement best practices for layout, space utilization, and inventory accuracy.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
Customs & Compliance:
Ensure adherence to customs regulations, import/export laws, and trade compliance requirements.
Manage relationships with customs brokers and ensure timely, accurate documentation.
Stakeholder Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, carriers, freight forwarders, warehouse providers, and regulatory authorities.
Communicate effectively to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, transportation costs, warehouse efficiency, and inventory accuracy.
Prepare regular management reports highlighting performance and areas for improvement.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost control and alignment with financial targets.
Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks in logistics operations and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure business continuity plans are in place.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop the logistics team (if applicable), fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Technology Adoption:
Evaluate and implement logistics technologies and systems to improve efficiency, visibility, and decision-making.
Sustainability in Logistics:
Identify and implement sustainable logistics practices, considering environmental impact, ethical sourcing, and long-term viability.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CLTD) are advantageous.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in logistics and supply chain management, preferably within a multinational organization or logistics company.
Proven experience in managing complex logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, and customs.
Strong understanding of logistics principles, practices, and regulations.
Proficiency in logistics software and systems (e.g., TMS, WMS, ERP modules).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Knowledge of international trade and customs procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
