Director, Physical Planning Unit (PPU) at Federal University of Technology, Babura

Federal University of Technology, Babura is owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The University’s campus is located in Babura, the headquarters of Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Northwestern Nigeria. The University’s host town offers the charm of a small agricultural town, with easy access to major metropolitan areas of Dutse, Kano, Bauchi, Maiduguri, and Kaduna. It also shares a border with the neighbouring Niger Republic.

The University is one of four universities established in the second quarter of 2021 to expand access to, and improve quality of, university education in Nigeria, as well as to address the need of improving medical care delivery to Nigerians, accelerating its technological development and ensuring equity in the distribution of higher institutions of learning across the country.

FUTB took off from its temporary site at the Jigawa State College of Remedial and Advanced Studies (JICORAS), the University shall move to its permanent site located on 606.4398 hectares of land at 1 Km along the Babura – Kano Road, Babura town. The University currently offers various courses, mostly in Technology, Computing and Sciences.

Job Title: Director, Physical Planning Unit (PPU)

Job Description

• The Director of the Physical Planning Unit is responsible for the overall planning and development of the university's physical infrastructure, including buildings, roads, parks, gardens, and utilities.
• The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction for the Physical Planning Unit, ensuring the design of a safe, functional, and conducive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Physical Planning Unit.
• Develop and implement the university's physical development, master plans, and policies.
• Coordinate the preparation of master plans and detailed designs for university projects.
• Manage the Unit's budget and resources.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff in the Physical Planning Unit.

Requirements

• At least a second-class lower honors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying, Building, Engineering) etc.
• A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in physical planning. architecture, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior management position in a university or similar institution.
• Proven experience in managing physical infrastructure development in a university or similar institution.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Registration with relevant professional bodies (eg, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners), etc.

Conditions of Service

• The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of five (5) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council, as the case may be.
