Grassroots Researchers Association (GRA) is a nonprofit and non-political rights-based organization registered in 2016 with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as a local content hub aimed at facilitating evidence- based grassroots initiatives and actions that promote development, justice and victims support in the communities. GRA is the implementing partner for a portfolio of survivor-centered projects across 19 local government areas in northeast Nigeria. These projects are strategically funded by a diverse group of international partners: the Mukwege Foundation, the Global Survivor Fund (GSF), the French Embassy, and We Are Not Weapons of War (WWOW).
Through these strategic collaborations, we are working to strengthen the network of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV)survivors by providing integrated support.
This includes offering tailored livelihood empowerment and essential trauma-informed psychosocial servicesto facilitate healing and economic stability.
We are also building the capacity of survivor-led networks, enabling them to become powerful advocates for their own rights.
A key component of our work involves utilizing innovative technology by combining direct survivor support with strategic capacity building and cutting-edge technology, we are helping to build a sustainable foundation for resilience and long-term empowerment in the region.
Job Summary
As a SeniorCommunications Officer at GRA, you will be a key team member, playing a vital role in raising awareness of our mission, amplifying the voices of the communities we serve, and securing resources to support our work.
The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with proven experience in developing and executing compelling communication campaigns across various platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports GRA's organizational goals.
Manage and maintain GRA’s brand identity across all communication channels, including our website, social media, and publications.
Create compelling content such as press releases, articles, social media posts, and reports to raise awareness about our work.
Cultivate strong media relations, building relationships with journalists to secure positive media coverage.
Develop and execute advocacy campaigns to influence policy change and promote survivor rights.
Plan and launch public awareness campaigns to educate the public about CRSV and other key issues.
Serve as GRA's spokesperson, representing the organization at events and conferences.
Oversee the production of communication materials, including brochures, flyers, and annual reports.
Monitor and analyze communication metrics to measure the effectiveness of all campaigns.
Stay up-to-date on current communication trends and best practices.
Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure communication efforts are aligned with our program goals.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. A Master's Degree is a significant advantage.
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in a communications role, with a proven track record in the non-profit or humanitarian sector.
Expertise in media relations,brand management, and strategic content creation across multiple platforms.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to craft compelling narratives.
Proven experience in leading teams and working effectively in challenging, high-pressure, multicultural environments.
Most Preferred Skills:
Extensive experience managing communications for projects in other complex, conflict-affected regions.
A track record of writing high-quality reports and developing compelling content for international funders and key stakeholders.
High proficiency inMS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Advanced planning, time management, and project management skills.
Strong leadership, mentorship, and people management skills.
Proficiency with social media analytics and content management systems.
The ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
A highly professional, accountable, and proactive approach to your work.
