Job Title: Blaster / Painter

Job Descriptions
The Blaster/Painter is responsible for performing surface preparation (blasting) and applying paint or protective coatings to structures, equipment, and pipelines.
The role ensures that blasting and painting activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and HSE regulations.
Carry out abrasive blasting (sand, grit, or shot blasting) to clean, smooth, or roughen surfaces.
Prepare surfaces to the required standards (e.g., SA 2.5, SA 3) before painting or coating.
Operate blasting equipment safely and efficiently.
Ensure proper use of PPE and breathing apparatus during blasting activities.
Painting & Coating Application:
Mix, prepare, and apply paints, primers, and protective coatings according to specifications.
Use spray guns, rollers, or brushes for application.
Apply multi-coat systems (primer, intermediate, topcoat) as per project requirements.
Ensure correct thickness (DFT – Dry Film Thickness) and quality of coatings.
Inspection & Quality Control:
Conduct visual checks of blasted surfaces before painting.
Ensure painting works meet project and international standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
Report surface defects, coating failures, or damages to supervisors.
Maintain accurate records of paint usage, surface preparation, and coating details.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow HSE policies and procedures at all times.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely (paint, solvents, blasting grit).
Participate in toolbox talks and safety drills.
Ensure proper ventilation and a safe working environment during blasting/painting.
Equipment & Maintenance:
Maintain blasting and painting equipment in good working condition.
Perform daily checks and cleaning of tools and spray guns.
Report defective equipment to supervisors for repair/replacement.
Qualifications & Experience
Secondary School Certificate or Technical Training Certificate.
Trade Test or Vocational Certificate in Painting/Blasting (preferred).
Minimum 6–10years’ experience in industrial blasting and painting (oil & gas, marine, or construction).
Knowledge of international standards (SSPC, NACE, ISO, ASTM).
Certification in blasting/painting (NACE, ICorr, FROSIO) is an added advantage.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency in blasting and painting techniques.
Ability to read and follow technical specifications.
Strong awareness of safety practices (hazardous materials, confined space, working at height).
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Physically fit to work in challenging environments (heat, offshore, confined spaces).
